When I look at our squad (and the fact that we don't have an unlimited budget), I feel we are 2 starting players and 2-4 rotational players short for this transfer window. Personally, I'd be content with just the 2 new starting players signed and filling the rotational gaps with capable players already at the club, rather than chasing luxury targets at other positions and missing out on making our starting lineup better than just the inclusion of Fabinho and Keita.
My personal approach to transfers:
TRANSFERS IN (45-56 mil):
Starting GK: Pope (10-15 mil) (with the intention of wooing Courtois on a free next season when his contract expires and Chelsea miss out on CL qualification again, unless Chelsea are prepared to accept 50-60 mil this year)
Prospect GK: Lunin (3-4 mil) (if he hasn't in fact agreed terms with Inter - future prospect, to be loaned out)
Starting CB: Diop (22-25 mil) (apparently going to West Ham) / Ake (25-30 mil) (likely to stay at B'mouth) / De Ligt (35-50 mil) (Klopp unlikely to pay more than 30 mil for another defender)
Rotational W: Moses Simon (10-12 mil) (apparently been linked with club, but unlikely to hear more until recovers from injury in a few weeks)
LUXURY TRANSFERS IN:
Rotational W: Gelson Martins (0) (we must not let a PL rival like an Arsenal be the one to take advantage of him terminating his contract with Sporting Lisbon if that situation ends up standing, but would not pay full 30-40 mil likely fee otherwise)
Rotational M: William Carvalho (0) (same as above, except his full fee otherwise would be 20-30 mil, but if free would be a good fit to our urgent defending and counter attacking style, meaning we could move on from Wijnaldum this or next year, or Lallana next year if he struggles with fitness and form for another year)
Prospect Rotational CB: See above (would be good to get another young CB in with Klavan's contract expiring in 2019, and the chance that neither Gomez or Lovren excel enough to be frequent rotational starters)
Prospect Rotational #10 style M/W: No idea (ideally we'd nurture a true replacement of Coutinho for games where our system is not enough, but there isn't really a worthy alternative to Fekir that is worth the money being asked, so hopefully we have a great season and can attract an actual star the following year if a good value signing can't be found now)
TRANSFERS OUT (52-96 mil):
Mignolet (7-10 mil) (contract expires 2021, self-explanatory)
Bogdan (0-1 mil) (contract expires 2019, best to move him on even if for next to nothing)
Matip (12-20 mil) (contract expires 2020, not good enough for a PL challenging starter, best to move him on while still has some value)
Moreno (6-10 mil) (contract expires 2019, decent rotational player but would rather Milner take on that role and sell Moreno for a few mil rather than let him walk on a free, and find a more disciplined workhorse rotational player next season)
Sturridge (10-20 mil) (contract expires 2019, still a big fan and so would only let him go if he insisted on leaving for first team football and we received a reasonable fee, otherwise I'd keep him in for rotation this year)
Origi (12-25 mil) (contract expires 2019, if we cannot extend him to a contract that is of good value and using him as either a rotational starter or loaning him out for one more year, then we're wise to sell him for at least some value)
Markovic (5-10 mil) (contract expires 2019, self-explanatory)
LOANS OUT:
Ward (contract until 2021, worth giving him a year or two out on loan to a Championship club to either prove himself or increase transfer value)
Grujic (contract expires 2020, unlikely to be able to claim a rotational role this year with 2 new mid signings, but has potential, so should be loaned to Cardiff again or a Championship club to either prove himself or increase transfer value)
Woodburn (contract expires 2022, wouldn't be devastated if he was one of the young players kept as a fringe rotational player, but would rather see him loaned out to finally get some more consistent first team playing time at a Championship club)
Solanke (contract expires 2022, and also wouldn't be devo if he stayed with Ings as one of the rotational forwards, but perhaps could do with more playing time at, say, a Championship club to aid his development and confidence, and convince us he could be a good forward for a Klopp team challenging for titles)
Ojo (contract expires 2020, could do with another year on loan to Fulham or a Championship club before considering selling him next season)
Wilson (contract unsure most likely 2022, but would like to see him out on loan for another year if possible at a Championship club, or one of those just promoted to the PL)
Ejaria (contract unsure, already to be loaned out to Rangers)
Kent (contract unsure, probably should be loaned out to Championship club)
