The "favourites" with no history or success in the competition, have lost 5 of their last 6 games. Meanwhile their fans openly admit they're more bothered about winning the English league than the biggest club competition in the world, which just goes to show the tribal nature of club football. It's the other way round for the sheikhs though. They didn't drag Guardiola away from Bayern, just to beat Huddersfield and Fulham at home every week.
While I want us to win the EPL and the EC, I would never ever cherry pick what trophies to win. That's why I couldn't answer the crappy question that gets asked; if you could have this that or the other, which one would you have? I'm as upset at going out of the European Cup as I am of the League Cup. Everyone remembers 86 for the double, but when we lost the league cup semi final at home to QPR via a missed penalty and two own goals, I was heartbroken. When several years later we lost at Peterborough, then Bristol City after three attempts to go through, it hurt like hell, whereas when we got thrown out of the European Cup at the group phase in 2009 in Budapest in the pouring rain, it was just humiliation, mainly caused by utter incompetence from the sideline.
I know some fans are only interested in "serious" tin, but after 1 major trophy in 12 years, (and none in 18 seasons that didn't need a penalty shootout) we're really in no position to cherry pick, so I'll take any tin by now.
