Sooooo much crazy cheering before anyone knew it was going to VAR. Pep up that line giving it the bifters and then "oh wait.."
Beautiful.
The moral of the story: In a VAR game, don't celebrate until the goal is confirmed. Every goal scored is provisional until it passes VAR. It often restrains my celebrations, but I'm not complaining. For the good of the sport, it has to be this way.
Being a Wednesday European Cup game, I had to go out to watch our game. The people beside me were whinging why the screen wasn't showing the City game, despite it being shown on a different screen 20 yards away. All the early goals there only fuelled the whinging further, I was concerned they were going to ask our game be turned off. Eventually they upped and left.
With us easing through, I said "there's only Liverpool fans still watching this". Some have complained that it was boring, alternatively it was a chance to enjoy us doing things the easy way. There won't be many more of them this season. We were kept updated on the score in the other game, so we didn't miss anything. Our game ended as the premature celebrations for the provisional goal started in mancland. Unlike when they went to Swansea, we have VAR, so the right decision could be made, and was. So far, the system has helped us out, and helped to eliminate PSG, City, and the mancs. One thing the Sheikhs On The Take in Doha and Dubai can't control is VAR, even if they decide to throw another 500m quid trying to buy the European Cup for themselves. Correct decisions are made now. Conmen get their air fare home.
