Don't think he has a sore neck, why play a trump card in a pre-season game, play your best hand in the big games.

He is being sold to Chelsea to fund the Allison transfer.

      Karius
      Clyne, Gomez, Virgil, Robbo
      Fab, Milner, Gini
      Lallana, Sturridge, Jones.

Lallana part of the front 3? :(

      Maybe, or 4-2-3-1 maybe?

      Fab-Milner
      Lallana - Gini - Jones
      Sturridge.

Hoping to see Lallana part of the midfield and more centrally to see how well the midfield and attack links up without Keita.

Maybe switch Gini and Adam. The fullbacks still push up in 4-2-3-1 so that would work.

Hopefully Keita being out is an extremely rare occurrence.

10am beers in the airport watching the game. Can’t ask for more.

Love that Jones continues to get himself in these starting XI’s. He’s done so well for a young lad.

Hope Gomez can start to show signs he’s actually a CB. Has no better partner alongside him.

Hopefully, HOPEFULLY, Lallana and Sturridge don’t get knocks. They’ve looked promising so far and we need them this season. It’d be typical for either of them to break down.

EDIT: soft arse Europeans complaining about kick off times :f_tongueincheek:

Agree with all of this. One thing about Jones....how long before Owen, Fowler and to a lesser extent, McManaman became first team regulars did we know much about them? I sure didn't. Not predicting he will break through to the effect that those players did, but I guess you never really know how decisively someone will take their chance. Love what I see so far, at any rate.

Loads of fouls here. Seems odd. Can we not cope? Are we tired already? Pretty sloppy play all round.

Good reminder there that this is all about fitness as that was poor. Half hearted effort but not helped by the slow and badly scuffed pitch.

At least we did run around a bit. So that's a positive.

Not clicking in the final third but I like that Gomez has had the awareness to cover for VVD a couple times. Jones, whilst his end product hasn’t been great, has gotten in to the right positions which is a great sign.

Fabinho has been good in the middle. Absolutely mad that his signing has waned in fanfare a little after Keita’s performances but if he can adapt to our style my God he will be absolutely crucial for us.

Sh*t half but enough there to feel okay about it for a pre season game.

More than a few players looking heavy legged in that first half. Terrible surface though.

No more Lallana in the wide areas, please! He offers 0 threat and actually causes harm and unbalance to the team imo.

Fabinho was great on the ball and very composed, got stronger defensively as the game progressed . Was a bit perplex as to why he was  moving forward more than Milner.

Agree with the Lallana comment. I’d have him nailed on for Ox’s spot.

And the midfield trio was VERY fluid that half. Gini and Milly popped up everywhere and Fabinho was more of a roaming outlet to keep the ball moving.

Fabinho did fail in several tackles though, and gave away a couple of fouls. Bit slow and sluggish, but that's what this game is for.

Was too easy. A nice finish in the end, but the run was too good for VVD, and our defence was easily cut open. They've been very slow and sloppy all game and Sane just tore them apart.
