If Mane is fit enough to start would like to see us go with Shaqiri behind the front three and if he is not fit enough to start then push Shaqiri wide and have Sturridge start. Hudderfield are not much of a attacking threat so I think a duo of Hendo/Gini/Milner/Fabinho can handle the middle of the park.

So, seems like only Mane and Keita will miss out. Could have been a lot worse.

A win is only ever 3 pts!

Apart from the first game of the season they have hardly had their arses handed to them playing at home.

Obviously but I did also mention goal difference, in which we are now behind Chelsea and Citeh, we need to start winning by big margins to correct that and Huddersfield and Cardiff should give us a very good chance to do that.

Agreed. Still if I was told now we win both games 1-0 I'd take that!

With Mane out no idea who'd sub in for him on the left. We have Salah -> Shaqiri and Firmino -> Sturridge but Mane -> ?

Perhaps Salah to the left and Shaq on the right? Or Firmino on the left and Sturridge in center?

My heads chocka thinking of all the different potential starting 11's Jürgen could pick for this one.
Hopefully his mate in the opposite dug out will do us a favour and play into our hands...

It's a big test this, first game back after what seems more like a month than a fortnight. So it will give us a good indication as to how we have re-grouped.
No slip ups allowed I'm afraid If we wanna stay up there in the running for this League Trophy.

Late kick off should suit us under the floodlights.

Salah brace would do nicely and shut the critics up..

Diamonds leave a gulf of space in the middle. I'd pass on that... We need to use formations we're going to use more often. 4-3-3 it going to be used in most games this season, but there could be a time we need to 4-3-1-2.. the 1 being a #10.

They do because midfielders get caught out wide and Hendo isn't strong in the middle as much as in the sweeper role. How many times do we say "good job Hendo is cleaning loose balls" that shouldn't have been there had he been stronger in the middle? Players drift past Henderson like that too much. 4-3-2-1 might be useful.

                              Alisson

       Trent    Gomez    VVD    Robertson

                  Hendo     Fab        Gini

                  Bobby                   Salah

                              Sturridge

This works because it's similar to a diamond and a 4-3-3, but the hole is further forward with 2 of the 3 strikers starting  deeper. More balls get picked up by our danger players who can cut into the space. Additionally our full backs have space and cover to run forward.  With your formation, everytime we go forward we'd be extremely vulnerable to a counter since there's nobody to drop back to cover.

We can chat all day about formations, I wouldn't mind seeing a change as I posted earlier. It'll be 4-3-3, it always is.

We need to bang a few goals in, especially against Huddersfield and Cardiff next week.
Perfect opportunity to increase our goal difference at the top.
Who knows, come May, it could be the difference the way this season is panning out.

I like 4-3-3 the most too.. it's adaptive. Diamond is inflexible and people have to stay too close to their starting positions. With 4-3-3 the strikers can drop back and full backs can get forward and usually have a better cover. Roy Hodgson used Diamond quite a bit, it was horrific. He  used it as England manager too and couldn't even qualify for Euros.

Every formation can be as flexible as you want it to be.

They simply can't. With a diamond Robertson or TAA can't go forward because there's nobody close by to cover. If they do go forward, one long ball can get through too easily... the middle of the park is vacant and against sides with a playmaker it would cut through our defence like butter.. with a 4-3-3 if full backs go forward, the midfielders aren't left in limbo from the middle of the park getting out their binoculars to watch the ball rocket into our net. Diamond is a sh*t formation that clueless managers use, that's why most don't use it. Every time I've seen a manager use it I've thought other formations would have done better. Had Rodgson not insisted on this pile of horsecrap formation England probably would have qualified for Euro 2008. However, enough about England.. but the mere suggestion of using such a formation is cringe worthy.

Yep. 'Clueless' Carlo Ancelotti and his Milan side that was one of the best of all time.

If only he didn't use the diamond you can only imagine how successful he could have been.
