Do you rent pocket space from JWH? Send him a valentines card?
It seems you fail to realise that we’ve had a couple of good seasons primarily down to a quality starting 11, Jürgens magical input and a massive dose of luck with injuries. You can’t rely on the latter to keep a team successful, as this season has proven with the frankly insane amount of injuries. That means investment is required, firstly to keep things fresh and secondly, to add quality to the non starting 11 for the seasonal domestic cup runs and when the injuries occur.
You seem to have disagreed with everything I’ve so far said, so I’ll assume you’ll continue in the same manner.
I am interested in the whole idea about our success coming mainly from our starting XI. Looking at our last two seasons (league only), in 2019-20, only 12 players started games in double digits, numbering 38, 35, 35, 34, 34, 33, 31, 29, 26, 22, 22 and 17. Then 11 other players combined for 62 starts - 23 starters in all.
In 2018-2019, 16 players started double digits, numbering 38, 38, 37, 36, 35, 32, 31, 27, 22, 22, 17, 16, 12, 11 and 11. Then 4 others combine for 24 starts - 20 starters in all.
This season 27 players have already started games in the league including 12 at 5 games or less. So we are definitely dipping into the squad deeper and more often and it's hard not to think this has a good deal to do with the difference in results.
