What on earth was that fiasco about the disallowed Brighton goal vs. West Brom today. I didn't understand during the game. I've heard Graham Potter and then the TV comms try to explain it for 10 minutes now in the post-game and I still don't understand.
Anyone?
The ref blew his whistle twice. The first time for the free kick to be taken, and the second time to stop play before the ball goes in, so a goal can't be given, and play then resumes with the free kick retaken. Everyone will blame VAR for it because that's what they do, but it's the ref's fault there. Because of VAR, the correct decision was reached, but the whole fiasco was hilarious.
Allardyce said he hadn't seen such a free kick in 2-3 years, which is wrong as the same player did the same thing against us last season. The ref blew just once for the free kick to be taken and it stood. But attention to detail is not something Allardyce is known for.
