You can see why the gamble was taken.
At one point looked to be a player in the same mould as Thiago.
Unfortunately he seems just as prone to injuries.
Issue is that the club is forced into taking these gambles.
I know Klopp etc are very particular in what player they want
The VVD transfer was a perfect example - went for him in the summer , fecked up but clearly wanted to wait for him
Waited for Konate , waited for Werner but then Klopp decided was too expensive etc
This seems to be the extreme case
Come the summer he wanted someone in who was going to replace a Naby or Ox who would be leaving this summer ( get them in a year earlier ) hence why going for Tchoumeni and Bellingham
But then when they couldn’t arrive he was happy to stick with what he had in midfield because it did well last season but it didn’t take long for the three players to get injured and then they panicked
Instead of looking to buy someone because they have specific targets they went stop gap so that they could then focus on the main targets this season
I know fingers get pointed at people on suits but imo this was all down to the recruitment and manager.
I have no idea what midfielders they could have brought in but a Tielemans at £20mil wouldn’t have been a bad shout
