I hate fat frank as much as the next guy, but to be fair, any team would probably be calling that a red card and that includes us. Not saying it was worthy of a red, the still images obviously make it look much worse than it actually was and it was certainly no more than a yellow but reds have been given for those challenges before and it's probably one that VAR wouldn't overturn as well.
But everything slowed down or still looks worse, one of the reasons why VAR come to wrong decisions most of the time, in real time it happens too fast for the naked eye to comprehend what actually occurs, and that’s no bad thing, it simply acceptable as the pace of the game,
Slowing down tv footage is ok when used for the right reasons, like hand ball in the box or from a deflection that leads to a goal etc, but if two players go in 50-50 their going to collide, and if they slow down that footage, it will look horrendous, and it can be, but players know this, know the risk yet still go for it regardless, it’s called a ‘Contact’ sport for a reason, There Will Be Contact, Doh !!
This season we’ve seen how Refs seem to let a fair bit of the rough stuff go between the players, again this no bad thing, it actually helps the flow of the game and player’s just simply get on with it, I just wish the Refs would take a step further and not scrutinise everything, it’s not football in the park with the bin lids, this a professional full on contact sport where combatants know the risks involved,
With camera’s everywhere looking at everything that moves, retrospective decisions can be made on any incident during the 95+ minutes, in rugby league if a Ref deems a particular incident worthy of further review he will raise his arms crossed to indicate that incident or player as ‘on review’, with further action taken if necessary,
This would cut out those overly long VAR decisions we see far too often, remember VAR was brought in to help Refs out, help the game, but the way it is used in England isn’t exactly what it was designed for, therefore it actually makes it worse than before, Refs would make a decision right or wrong depending if it was for or against, and that would be it, most ppl accepted the decision and gave them something to debate over a few pints, sometimes things don’t need fixing and new fangled ways don’t always work, especially if there not used in the correct manner, or what they were designed for!!!
