      Personal terms with player agreed.

      Now just need to agree a fee with Fluminese.

      Read we offered 30m and it was refused by the club because they want him for the Libertadores games and so our options are to either wait until January or activate  the 34m release clause in his contract.

      Gotta wonder who has the final say on who we buy.

      Szoboszlai, Mac Allister and Endo were signed with such minimal fuss, making me think whoever makes the final call has said those players are a must. Even Caicedo there was no pissing about on our part, it was straight in with a bid that Brighton would accept.

      This lad Andre and Lavia it was bid a bit here despite there being a set asking price. Maybe bid a bit more. Maybe a bit more but still not quite their valuation. Let it go cold for a while then come back in a few weeks. Making me think whoever makes the final call has said, well we'd like them but we're not gonna go all in for them.

      It can't just be a release clause either if this lad has one and we're still failing to meet it.

      Triggering André's release clause may be Plan B incase a move for Gravenberch falls through. In theory a deal for André could get completed in a matter of hours if personal terms are agreed already as all that would need to be done is to trigger the release clause with the club. All that would be left to do is medical but that could be done hastily with trusted doctors on site. The biggest hurdle would be negotiating a fee but that wouldn't be a factor with a release clause.

      Feels a bit like caught between two stools on this one.
      If Bayern give the green light on Gravenberch then André in January.
      Would rather just sign André now and swerve any transfer deadline day noise.

      If we're to believe that the bid for Caicedo was our transfer budget for the summer, then we've still got around 100 million to spend now.

      And if the figures thrown around for Andre (34 million release clause) and Gravenberch (22 million Bayern asking price) are true then we could sign both now for somewhere between 55 and 60 million. Even loan Andre back to Fluminense if possible if we don't see him getting many minutes here this season.

      Like you, I'd rather we just sign the player(s) now and avoid all the pissing about and the transfer committee/recruitment team/whatever other modern day term is used have shown they can do business early but they've also shown they can drag their heels and faff around. So my guess is whoever makes the final, definitive call on transfers doesn't think Andre is an out and out must buy right now.

      Could be. You seem to think that we won't go for both Andre and Gravenberch. Neither do I. Both would be overkill. Would rather we signed one plus a CB.

      Thank f*ck he has a release clause! To our negotiators that's a golden piece of information that means they have to work especially hard to f*ck it up. I'm sure they will be up for the challenge as deadline day approaches  :D

      Just pay the F***ing release clause and get him now. I'm not sure why this is so hard for Jorg. I thought he was Mr. Release Clause??

      Ouarter final of Copa Libertadores is played this Friday with 2nd leg not until 1st September.

      If we get him, we're getting him in January.

      I know enough to say that Gravenberch has a lot of potential. If we buy him at a great price, with the idea of turning him into a 6, then great. If it doesn't work, he can always be a squad player in the 8. Lord knows we need bodies in the midfield positions. Thiago and Jones need cover for healthy reasons, plus Thiago is done after this season. Barjetic is still young and growing, grown man football will be tough on his body, but skies the limit for him in the long run. Bring him in and mold him unto what you need

      It makes perfect sense that André would be a January signing. Not only due to the Libertadores and lower January fee, but he's also stylistically the most similar to Thiago who also happens to be leaving on a free next summer. André in and Thiago out would effectively be a like-for-like replacement 6 months ahead of time to get André settled before Thiago leaves.

      That approach would be similar to the succession planning when Diaz arrived 6 months prior to Mané leaving, and Gakpo arriving 6 months prior to Firmino leaving.

      Henderson, Milner, and Keita/Ox (I joined them as their combined minutes of availability is effectively one players' worth) have already been replaced directly with Szoboszlai, Endo, and Mac Allister, and it seems like André is the Thiago replacement for 2024, but there's still the matter of replacing Fabinho to resolve which is clearly the number one priority right now.

      Henderson --> Szoboszlai
      Keita/Ox --> Mac Allister
      Milner --> Endo
      Fabinho --> Gravenberch/Doucoure?
      Thiago --> André (in 2024 nearer when Thiago leaves on a free)

      The story by ESPN Brasil mentioning that Liverpool have bid for André now but won't come back for him in January seems like posturing in negotiations.

      For one it'll make Fluminense's leadership think twice about whether they want to risk losing out on the €30m they have on the table right now. That figure would smash their previous transfer record so it's a big risk to take considering that injuries happen all the time.

      Secondly, it'll probably motivate André and his camp to push harder for a move right now since there's no guarantee he'll have the same offer on the table in four months time.

      Says since our bid was rejected we won’t come back in for him in January.
