      Epiphone Electric Guitars
      Dec 17, 2007 02:57:18 am
Well Christmas is coming, and guess what I want!

I want an Epiphone Les Paul Electric Guitar.

I've been looking on Ebay, and I've heard about a lot of scam artists that are on there selling fake Epiphones.

This will be the first guitar I will purchase, and I've heard good things about Epiphones being good for the price & sounding exactly just like the Gibson Les Paul.

Anyone come across this?  I need a bit of advice seeing I'm a guitar newb.

       :f_doh:

      Thanks!

      I got my 3rd & 4th Electric Guitars on E-Bay, saved a fortune
my 3rd is a Gibson ES-335 Copy by Washburn (a Delta King as per pic's)
and a Fender Telecaster '72 reissue

but like anything on Ebay (or online), you have to deal with somebody that has decent feedback,
and has good communication & decent pictures ( I ask for another pic of say a close up of the pick-ups just to make sure that they are of the actual guitar not just using pics found off the net.

As for them sounding just like a Gibson, ANY brand will have their Budget, Mid Range, Top Shelf Guitars
and you cant compare your favorite "Axeman's" sound to that from a budget Guitar, its all in the setup and what you are playing it through. the same guitar can sound VERY different through a different amp and/or effects pedal

my best suggestion would be to find a guitar on Ebay, then research that model,
try the "User Review" section on Harmony Central

      http://reviews.harmony-central.com/

and find out what other players are saying about it and what its worth.

      Hope that helps....

      Thanks!

I had a go of a replica Les Paul and it sounded pretty sweet! As the Warrior has mentioned, a lot of it is due to the amp set up!

My amp is absolutely w*nk when it comes to playing with the overdrive on! So I'm pretty limited to acoustic style stuff until I upgrade! I'm still on my first budget guitar! But I play it through my cousins amp and it makes me sound like a rock god! 8)

Im not to sure what the different components are on these 2, but with a few things like this, you will know when you pick it up, its the feel, I cant tell you what it is, but you just know "Thats the One"

The Red Washburn guitar I have was never a guitar that Id thought Id ever own / play, but after getting talked into having a go at a music shop, I just loved it, the sound was incredible, its a very personal choice, the best looking guitars arnt always the best sounding

Cheers for that Warrior!  The Les Paul Standard looks good, but I might just give in to that Les Paul Custom.  Some fella on Ebay are selling genuine ones at a good price, (I've checked his feedback)!

I've played that Custom one and it's a lovely feeling guitar! Plus the white looks out of this world! 8) Very cool!

But it's a personal thing! There's guitars that me mates love that I just can't get into! Music shops are always the best way to go! Just explain you're undecided between the two, they usually have them in stock or something similar! ;)

Minute difference?  Don't confuse me!  :D

Mines an Epiphone Les Paul Custom, Gibson own the company Epiphone, but they sell for less!

Better than shelling out £1k for a Gibson!  :D

Yeah, I can tell by the big toothy grin................

But now comes the frustrating part, the learning....
Its a bit like learning to ride a bike, 1 day you cant, next day you can, and you dont know what you are doing different,
something just "Clicks" and you get it....

      Great stuff Court, enjoy....
