      Top scorer's over the years
      Dec 26, 2007 11:06:57 pm
Been searching high and low for a list of Liverpool's top scorer on a season to season basis.

Seeing as Fernando is already on a total of 15, and bearing in mind he was out injured for a bit I was just wondering if he is 'on' to set a bit of a record for recent times.

Anybody got a list of what our top scorers for each of the last ten seasons or something got - just so we can put it in perspective?

For the record so far Torres is on:

Premiership: 9 goals from 13 starts (3 sub appearances)
League Cup: 3 goals from 1 appearance
Europe: 3 goals from 4 starts (1 sub appearance)

Try www.lfchistory.net, they have pretty much every stat you could require. I'd be pretty confident in saying he's probably on track to be our highest scorer since Robbie.

Had a look there.  Could go through but there isn't an actual list as such.

      06/07 Crouch 18 (9 in league)
      05/06 Gerrard 22 (10 in league)
04/05 Gerrard, Garcia, Baros 13 (Baros highest with 9 in league)
      03/04 Owen 19 (16 in league)
      02/03 Owen 28 (19 in league)
      01/02 Owen 28 (19 in league)
      00/01 Owen 24 (16 in league)

You never know 15 under his belt.  I really think he could get to 20 in the league alone.  I guess the rest depends on our runs in the cup competitions.  Would be great to see him get 30 goals for the season - anybody think he can do it?

Where did you find them JD? I just spent time typing this out so I'm posting it!! This was from Liverweb.

      Crouch - 18 - 06/07
      Gerrard - 23 - 05/06
      Baros, Garcia, Gerrard - 13 - 04/05
      Owen - 19 - 03/04
      Owen - 28 - 02/03
      Owen - 28 - 01/02
      Owen - 24 - 00/01
      Owen - 12 - 99/00
      Owen -23 - 98/99
      Owen - 23 - 97/98
      Fowler - 31 - 96/97
      Fowler - 36 - 95/96
      Fowler - 31 - 94/95
      Rush - 19 - 93/94
      Rush - 22 - 92/93

There was no doubt Fowler would be the one to match. Possible?

Well done.  I went through Soccerbase with my Windows calculator!

Look at Robbie! What a legend.

It's a shame Rafa tends to haul Torres off after he has scored a couple - always protecting him!

He's got every chance to beat Robbies record, we got 22+ games to be played yet, depending on our cup runs.  As you say JD, if only Rafa wasn't so protective - I'm glad though  ;) :D

      Cheat.

Fowler in the mid 90's was a pure goal beast wasn't he. That's probably why I always bang on about us needing a deadly goal scorer. Would be great for us to have someone nearly as deadly as Fowler was, to play alongside Torres. Relying on Torres alone out of the strikers to bag goals isn't a good thing. I hate to say it but that's the road it looks like we're heading down lately.

But the way he's carrying on, I don't see why he can't bag another 15? We're roughly half way through the season.

Any way you look at it 9 goals from 13 league starts is a superb return.  Especially when you consider he is new to the Premiership and still so young.

Another 20 league games and - touch wood - an injury free run and and he should definitely be looking at hanging another 10 goals on that.  5 goals should be no problem on our way to winning the Champions League and FA Cup and bonza - 30 goals in a season.

I really fancy him to score a couple against Inter.

Depending on cup runs, i believe he can reach 25+ by the end of the season. We make it at least to the semi's in the CL and FA Cup then he will surely get there. Touch wood!

I think he should easily get a hat-trick against Luton, if he plays. So it looks promising.

Talking of goals Nate has a good comparison of goals scored in the last 15 mins of games from this & last season...

      15 minutes remaining…

      by Nate Oh, You Beauty...blog

      http://ohyoubeauty.blogspot.com/2007/12/15-minutes-remaining.html

There are several differences between this year’s Liverpool team and last year’s. I just want to highlight one.

Through the 29 games so far this season, Liverpool’s scored 23 goals after the 75th minute. Through the same amount of games in 06/07, the team scored 11.

      07/08
      Villa 8/11 – Gerrard 87’
      Sunderland 8/25 – Voronin 87’
      Toulouse 8/28 – Kuyt 87’ 90’
      Derby 9/1 – Voronin 76’, Torres 77’
      Reading CC 9/25 – Torres 86’
      Wigan 9/29 – Benayoun 75’
      Tottenham 10/7 – Torres 90’
      Everton 10/20 – Kuyt 90’
      Besiktas 10/24 – Gerrard 85’
      Besiktas 11/06 – Babel 78’ 81’, Crouch 88’
      Fulham 11/10 – Torres 81’, Gerrard 85’
      Porto 11/28 – Torres 78’, Gerrard 82’, Crouch 87’
      Bolton 12/2 – Babel 85’
      Marseille 12/11 – Babel 90’
      Portsmouth 12/22 – Torres 85’
      Derby 12/26 – Gerrard 90’

      06/07
      Maccabi Haifa 8/9 – Gonzalez 88’
      Chelsea 8/13 – Crouch 80’
      Newcastle 9/20 – Alonso 79’
      Tottenham 9/23 – Riise 89’
      Reading CC 10/25 – Crouch 77’
      Bordeaux 10/31 – Garcia 76’
      PSV 11/22 – Crouch 89’
      Galatasaray 12/5 – Fowler 89’
      Fulham 12/9 – Gonzalez 90’
      Charlton 12/16 – Bellamy 82’, Gerrard 88’

It’s also worth noting is that Gerrard’s gotten 5 of them this season compared to only 1 last season, while Torres has scored 6 of Liverpool’s late goals. In fact, players bought this summer (Torres, Babel, Benayoun, and Voronin) scored 13 of the 29 goals after the 75th minute this season.

But more importantly, only 2 games during this span last season were won by the late goal -- the first two of the season.

So far this campaign, Liverpool’s scored late winners against Villa, Wigan, Everton, Fulham, Porto and Derby, while Torres’ goal in the 90th minute against Spurs saved a point.

Good teams win games they look like they’ve lost or drawn. Good teams aren’t beaten until the final whistle blows. How many games have Arsenal, United, or Chelsea snatched at the death over the last three seasons?

That Liverpool’s added this dimension to their game can only bode well.

Interesting stats DM, I knew we were getting more late winners than before but it's good to see exactly how many.

I have consistently said this season how encouraged I am by the fact that we're picking up points whilst playing badly, something we've never been able to do in the past. We've always played better in the 2nd half of the season under Rafa, so I don't see any reason why we can't mount a serious title challenge from the position we're currently in.

Providing Torres steers clear of injury I see no reason why he should not double his goal tally. As another poster has said we usually do well in the second half of the season so I think we should fasten our seat belts for a ride to the top.I still feel a good left winger would make all the difference and give Torres even more Ammo to put the ball in the net.
