I found that with late night runs.
      Wide awake afterwards.

Been doing insanity for 28 days now,  yesterday was my day off so I did a 10k run and knocked 3mins off my best time.  Now have a 10k PB of 42:15. Well chuffed.

Women in this office, on about a protein diet.  One is sat eating a BabyBel.

Yea, BabyBel, that natural, clean, unprocessed protein.  Ha ha ha ha you can’t make it up.

What winds me up is peoples laziness towards weightloss.

They'll ask me "How did you do it" expecting me to say, "Well you know McDonalds?  If you have 3 a day, you lose weight.  High 5!"

Was thinking back the other day, I remember when I first started lifting, trying to be Johnny Big Bollocks, I put 2x20KG plates on my bar.

      My bar is 15KG.

      So 55kg all in.

Lay on the bench, lifted it off the rack.  “Think strong – I’ve got this – Easy”

Couldn’t get it off my chest, had to slide off my bench…. Knackered my ribs for days!

Just glad I did it in my garage, rather than in a gym!!!!

That was in July, now I can easily warm up (15 reps) with that weight.

My 1 rep max bench press so far is 75kg.

      Progression strength-wise is amazing.

      Like myself Si.

      I started running mid January.

Did 5k in 29 minutes last weekend
and 10k in 1hr on Sunday.

      Feeling it today though.

Like you said, every time I go out
I feel a bit better. Apart from once,
when I'd been on the wine and whiskey
      the night before.

I'm trying to get out at least tiwce a week but only managed once the last couple so I'm getting back on track this week.

I've been running for years now. My advice would be don't run more than 3 times a week. Keeps you fresh and keeps you from getting burnt out.

Your gains are impressive Si....don't know if I'd run 3 miles that fast right now and I was getting pretty fast (for my age) at the end of the year.

      Cheers FL.

I honestly wasn't sure if that was good, bad or average to be honest. Just setting out to run a bit more each time.

Agree on three times a week as well and I've never done more than that but one week on my third run I did really feel it and struggled a bit. Probably why I only went out once the next week.

Running is certainly a wonderful way to get fit. Simple, easy, and - my favorite - gets you outdoors. You see and experience the world during a run, it's great. Plus you can pump some tunes as you go 8)

Need to get back into it myself. Had an ankle reconstruction a year ago and just let myself get unfit a bit.

For me, anything under 27 minutes fro 3 miles is good. My best 5k time in recent years has been around 24:30. I'm hoping to get it down near 22-23 by the end of the year but we'll see. I may end up doing another half marathon towards the end of the year and if so I'll be focused more on long distance speed than 5k speed. Hope you keep it up. I don't really LOVE running like some do, much rather bike but with all of the travel I do, it's something I can keep up with no matter where I go.

I'd peaked a few weeks ago with my 10k 1hr run.
Between exams, christening for the babog and St Patricks weekend I did nothing for weeks.
Add a terrible diet for the same time.

      Went back running last night.
Pushed hard and dropped off badly in the second half of the run.
Good to be back at it though. First run in the new brogues.

Just got back from 5 miles. Trying to do a program of long (5), short (3) long (6-7) for a few weeks to build up my endurance again. My diet hasn't been great but to be honest, it never is....I run so I can eat ;D

It's hard to fit it in sometimes.

All being well I'll be out tonight and see how I get on but 10K is a long way off for me yet.

I started doing two half hour runs and a 1 hour run and took if from there.
As I improved the distance in the time increased without me trying to push myself too hard.
3 times a week was the best for me as it allowed a lot of rest in between.
When I attempted a move up to 4 I found I was tightening up too much.

Thinking about getting into running myself was going to do 3 days a week, and on "rest" days do some strength work with weights.

Overdoing it? Also need to get a diet in place as well... Assuming high protein - low carbs is still the best way to do it? Not necessarily looking to lose a lot of weight, maybe a small bit and tone up.

      Any recommendations?

That's exactly what I do, run Monday, Wednesday and usually Friday or Saturday and lift weights on Tues and Thurs.

I'm not really to be giving diet tips though, my diet is the worst part of my regimen. I'm just not that into denying myself the things I like to eat. I run so I can eat ;D

If you are only starting off then the running 3 times a week will be enough.
      What distances are you covering?

You can go for the obvious, ie paleo, for quick weight loss, but if you want
to do some longer runs during the week you'll need an intake of carbs the
night or morning before to keep you from burning yourself out.

Signed up for a sprint Triathalon in Sept. 440 yard swim, 10 mile bike, 5k run.

      Started my training last week.

Shooting for 1:10:00 total time right now.

Got a cheap road bike for my birthday which has helped cut time off my bike rides, but  I'm still behind the pace I want to keep (20mph)...still averaging around  17mph so I've got some work to do. Hope to do better than most during the swim and the run won't give me too many problems, I just need to work on getting faster.
