Hooligan Firms -- Have We Ever Had One?
      Jan 30, 2008 03:48:29 pm
I am really keen to know if Liverpool ever had a firm.

As we all know, hooliganism was a part of football culture once upon a time and it still is. But were there any famous LFC firms, i know that it is not the LFC way to cause trouble and fight etc etc, but have we ever had a fearsome firm, like Milwall, West Ham etc and what where their/are their names?

      Anybody know?

Are they a make up of Liverpool Fans all over the world, or just scousers, just keen to know if they were a spread out firm, from all four corners of the UK? Maybe even outside Britain?

The Irregulars are just a group of fans who have representation at every match we play. I was speaking to one of them in Nice in 2004 the day before we played Monaco and he told me the name came from the fact that they came from different places in Merseyside.

You might want to read ' The Boys From The Mersey '

      It's a true account from a group of fans in the 70's & 80's

      Quote
The Road End united infamous mobs like the Breck Road Firm and the Huyton Baddies into a motley assortment of jibbers, blaggers and bruisers to whom ever 'no entry' sign was a challenge and every price tag a joke.

The book is wriiten by Nicholas Allt and was published in 2004.

It's next on my 'to read' pile.

Oh yer , ive read that. Got it from HMV a while ago.

Thats just reminded me really , Liverpool never really had proper 'firms' just groups of mates who would go all over Europe on the rob , bunking trains and basically havina laugh !

My dad often tells us of stories of him an his mates bunking half way round europe to get to the match , robbing a load of adidas from Germany and sellin em once they got back in school.

......god i wish it was like that now , sounds amazing.

Its a good read anyway tommo , reminiscint of the good old days when liverpool were the best team in europe and didnt have a care in the world !

Do you mean the Urchins? If that link is right and it was them who made fun of the Munich accident, then they're no worse than the tw*ts who sing Hillsborough chants and Heysel songs. It's not funny and its not clever when you sing about something where people died. Disgraceful....

Mate i didn't even see that sun newspaper link, or read it, for crying out loud. I wasnt laughing at Munich, thats a childish thing to do, i was laughing at the jokes they play on people, like tying people up around the stadium, the link was just there to show how people react towards what they had done.

People need to understand other peoples points of views on here, i hate the sun with a passion and i dont find slating Munich 58 funny in the slightest, so i think i rightly deserve an apology there JD!

Great Liverpool song mostly sung in the pubs

Two little boys had two little toys
      Each had a wooden horse
Gaily they played each summer's day
      Warriors both of course

One little chap then had a mishap
      Broke off his horse's head
Wept for his toy then cried with joy
      As his young playmate said

Did you think I would leave you crying
When there's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Jack and don't be crying
I can go just as fast with two

When we grow up we'll both be soldiers
And our horses will not be toys
And I wonder if we'll remember
When we were two little boys

Long years had passed, war came so fast
      Bravely they marched away
Cannon roared loud, and in the mad crowd
      Wounded and dying lay

Up goes a shout, a horse dashes out
Out from the ranks so blue
Gallops away to where Joe lay
Then came a voice he knew

Did you think I would leave you dying
When there's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Joe, we'll soon be flying
I can go just as fast with two

Did you say Joe I'm all a-tremble
      Perhaps it's the battle's noise
      But I think it's that I remember
When we were two little boys

Do you think I would leave you dying
There's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Joe, we'll soon by flying
Back to the ranks so blue

Can you feel Joe I'm all a tremble
      Perhaps it's the battle's noise
      But I think it's that I remember
When we were two little boys

It was on that trip to France when I first saw latest the flag (I Think they had it made that year) and heard them singing two little boys. I thought it was particularly poignant now as the Flag had "did you think we would leave you dying". I felt we were only their for the party and to support our team out of the love we felt. The club was struggling to find investment and it felt like we would never challenge for major honours again. But no matter what we will follow the Reds to the ends of the earth! I had such a good time on that trip (even though we lost 1-0!) that I only missed Juve away in that seasons competion. And little did I know as I sat in the warm winter sun sun of Nice, swinging bottles of Heineken and with a feeling of defeat that I was on a Journey that would end in Istanbul and immortality for my club!

Ive heard over the years of lads from up in Netherton/Sefton/Ford in north liverpool having good crews together. especially i think as it stems back to the early 70s cos there was alot of skinhead/suedehead bootboys up them ways who was always in the kop and at the away games who was always fighting. they were renowned for avin a dust up with other areas of bootle back in them days. and the eden vale pub in netherton was the main pub and was like hell in a boozer.
lads down the southend used to call it Bandit Country or The Bad Lands up there. i mean there was knothing else for them to do apart from beat the daylights out of each other and anybody who wasnt from around there kneck of the woods.

Ive actally spoke to a few lads from there in the last few years whove been at a few away games and ive seen them in the kop aswell so they are still knocking about just the sons of. cos one of them was laffin when i was tellin him about what im typing here and he said i dunno about them urchins its the North End Bandits you wanna beware of jim ponchos and pistols we carry.
theyd all be in jail knowadays if they was like there fathers used to be up there. haha the good old days aye.......

If you wanted to find  trouble back in the 70's then an afternoon in the Anfield road end would have suited you down to the ground. The sound of Kopites are gobshites form the Annie road home supporters tells the story pretty well. You would often see a huge gap opening up in the middle of the terrace as everything kicked of with the away supporters. Never new they were called urchins though learn something new everyday.

Ah it was always fun walking home through Stanley park where the away coaches parked. Learned how to sprint without the need of blocks. ;D

Have a read of 'The Boys From The Mersey' by Nicky Alt. It examines the 'casual culture' from a Scouse perspective and it's a pretty funny, entertaining read too.

I do not know about hooligan firms at Anfield but there used to be some big kids in the boys pen that used to scare the sh*t out of the little kids. :f_tongueincheek:

Late 69 and 1970 we used to "escort" the I.C.F. (West Ham Inter City Firm) off the trains at Lime Street.
      Scarves round our wrists.

Special reception was always guaranteed  for the scum on arrival.

The scum used to be escorted from Anfield  by the cops after the match ,some of them still managed to get a hiding though.

Great Liverpool song mostly sung in the pubs

You ll find it was a Rolf Harris song released Christmas 1969.

Written early last century about the  American Civil War .
