An Open Letter From Momo Sissoko
      Feb 01, 2008 01:31:14 pm
After completing his move from Liverpool to Juventus Momo Sissoko has taken time out to send this heart-felt message to Reds fans all over the world.
      Dear Liverpool fans,

As soon as I arrived in Liverpool I realised how much this team meant.

Now, after two and a half years I have to say goodbye and I can't hide the great sorrow I feel in leaving one of the best clubs in Europe.

Liverpool FC as a club, its fans, its coaches and my team-mates have together helped me to become a better player and, above all, a better person.

Liverpool FC is one of the greatest. The Liverpool fans never desert their team.

Even in the worst moments you have a strong sense that the fans are with you, supporting you as much as they can, never giving up, those fans make Liverpool even stronger. I really want to thank them for helping me to feel and to understand what football means in its purest form.

I also think Liverpool FC functions this way because of its leaders; Rafael Benitez works from dawn to dusk, and the players know they must fight for the red shirt in every second of every match.

Now I am beginning a new adventure in another big European Club in Juventus. They have also now put their faith in me.

I shall play to my best in every single match, I shall fight hard for my new shirt to the end, but when every match is finished, I know what I'll do first - I shall ask about the results of Liverpool FC.

Everybody knows the legend "You'll Never Walk Alone" and I shall never ever forget the experience and the team.

I want to thank everyone for the opportunity and wish everyone all the best for the future.

      With my best regards,
      Mohammed Sissoko

Great to see he wrote to all the fans to say goodbye properly. Sad that it couldnt work out better for him here. Would love to see him back in the future when he has grown as a player.

If a player writes a letter like that to the club then it shows he was a true red and truly did feel honoured to pull on the red shirt, I remember luis garcia done it when he left. Both players were only at the club a couple of seasons yet owen was there for like 8 years and he didnt even say bye! but then again he was just in it for money!

Considering the flak Momo has had this year it is decent of him to write such a nice letter.I notice he holds RAfa in high regard and says he works from dawn to dusk . Thank you MOMO for taking time  to write  and thanks for your efforts for the REDS.

I think that wonderful gesture from Momo will guarantee him a very warm welcome if he ever comes back to Anfield with Juventus.

Feel a bit sorry that it didn't work out for him here, he showed such huge potential when he first came.........shame really.

All the very best Momo :)

      He will never forget Liverpool.
So we will never forget him.
It's fine that our club can effect to players in such way.

Thank you, Momo for your words! I respect you too as you  always respect Liverpool.
Best wishes in your future career at Dela Alpi!

You will probably all remember 21st February 2006 when Momo sustained that terrible eye injury... it was a time when football didn't matter that much but the health of a Liverpool player did...

The press reports that followed stated:

Liverpool's midfielder Momo Sissoko spent the night in a Lisbon hospital with a horrific eye injury after being kicked in the face during their 1-0 Champions League loss to Benefica.

Sissoko was floored for four whole minutes, after receiving a kick by midfielder Beto before being taken away on a stretcher with bandages on his eye. Sissoko was replaced by Dietmar Harnann, while Beto was subsequently booked. A club statement said: He has a serious eye injury and is staying in hospital overnight for observation and further tests. Although it is not quite clear yet as to the severity of his injuries, it is thought to be quite serious."

Liverpool inevitably lost the match; six minutes before the end of the game after Brazilian defender Luisao scored the only goal.

      *****

FEARS were growing over Mohamed Sissoko last night after Liverpool confirmed the severity of the midfielder's horrific eye injury. The Malian international has suffered serious damage to the retina in his right eye after being accidentally kicked in the face by Benfica midfielder Beto during Tuesday night's Champions League defeat.

Sissoko is almost certainly out for the rest of the season, but there is genuine concern the 21-year-old may lose the sight in his eye - instantly ending his career. A definitive prognosis can only be made once the swelling of the injury has gone down, with Sissoko complaining of blurred vision immediately after the incident.

Sissoko flew back to England yesterday after having been detained overnight in the CUF Hospital in Lisbon, accompanied by club doctor Mark Waller. Dr Joao Paco, clinical director of the hospital, said the player had undergone a CAT scan and other examinations before being discharged. But the doctor was downbeat in his assessment of Sissoko's condition earlier in the day. "Right now he's under specialist care, and we are reserving judgement," he said. "We can't say anything more right now."

A Liverpool club spokesman said yesterday: "Momo has under-gone further tests this morning which have confirmed damage to the retina in his right eye. "The injury is currently affecting his eyesight. Further consultations with eye specialists have been arranged for when the player returns to England."

Beto has apologised for the high challenge on Sissoko, which resulted in a caution for the Benfica man from referee Konrad Plautz. "I just caught him accidentally with my boot, and unfortunately it opened up a wound," said Beto. "I want to apologise to him, because I did not mean to injure him. It was just a typical midfield challenge, the sort that happens all the time."

"You are always getting 50-50 balls like that, and all you are thinking about is trying to win it. That's how it was this time. All I saw was the ball, and I put my foot in to try and nick it away from him. I certainly did not mean to do him any harm, and I am very concerned to hear he has ended up in hospital." Beto added: "I tried to apologise to him at the time, when he was receiving treatment, and I want him to know I am really sorry."

In a later statement clinical director Joao Paco said "The prognosis is guarded but vision is going to be compromised on the right side, it may be 80 or 20 per cent, but we can't say yet. He suffered trauma with bruising to the eye but there was no apparent destruction of the structure."

Fortunately Momo made a full recovery and went on to play in a  Red shirt many times.

Honours : European Super Cup ('05), FA Cup ('06), Charity Shield ('06)

A gifted player who could wrestle the ball from a rhino. With having the best midfield in the world Momo would eventually become a player who, like most wanted regular 1st team footy and so had to start looking outside of the Anfield gates. Great tackler but not too hot on the passing is my considered opinion. Nevertheless best wishes go with Momo to Juventus and may you have continued success with your career. YNWA

Life tells me that it is very difficult to get a person to write unless it is very necessary and Momo and Luis had done just that speaks volume of how much respect these two have for the club and its fans. All the best to Momo.

as has been said to take the time to write a letter like Momo has done speaks volumes about the lad but to do it while he was away with his country at a vital stage for them and to think of writing it then is commendable. Respect to you Momo and best wishes in the future. If you return to Anfield as an opponent you will get the welcome you richly deserve. I often questioned your passing ability but never your heart and effort

You provided a breath of fresh air to our side and answered alot of critics along the way, i praise you for your never ending energy, undoubted talent, rough and tumble approach, your ability to stand up to the pretty boys and get dirty but most of all your respect and desire for the red shirt.

To you Momo on behalf of every Red fan,

Not Quite the LEGEND I thought he'd be but a great player in his first season and had some memorable nights last year, particularly against BARCA...This season, let's be honest, he was terrible but lets remember him for those cruching tackles in his first 24 months.

Will NEVER forget the way he schooled Ballack in the charity shield....Then the C*nt Ballack tried to get him back by stamping on him in the game at the bridge.
