      Nobby Solano (Out of Contract)
      Jun 22, 2008 12:55:14 am
Any chance of us picking him up?  Highly unlikely I know from reading his comments.

Rafa was interested when Newcastle sold him but West Ham landed him.

He has been released by West Ham...

      Quote

West Ham have decided to release veteran winger Nolberto Solano after just one season at Upton Park.

The 33-year-old joined the Hammers in August 2007 from Newcastle, and made 23 league appearances for the club.

Solano has ruled out a return to St James' Park, but the Peruvian is hoping to continue playing in England.

"I am looking for another club. I hope to stay in England for another two years and after that, I will return to Peru," he said.

Solano enjoyed two spells at Newcastle before his family situation forced him to look for a club in London.

"Everybody knows what I feel about Newcastle and those fans, but it would be difficult to ever return there," added Solano, who also had a spell with Aston Villa.

"The reason I was forced to leave Newcastle was because of family reasons, and that situation has not changed."

      From BBC Sport

Anyway, I'm interested in this 'family situation'....

His wife and kids refuse to move up north, they have lived near London for years so he had to commute to london from newcastle and back. Thus why he went to the hammers, and thus why liverpool wouldnt be that great an option for him

Not sure why we'd need him, even if he's free. Where would he fit in and what makes him better backup to the team than players like Benayoun?

Nobby was/is a great player, JD.  I always wanted him at Anfield.  But I think he's just too old now.  I don't know how the lad didn't end up at a top four club. He was quality.

yes, in his prime, he would have been an awesome signing, Ross.

And we were linked with him I think before he went to west ham.

I was sorta surprised to read his comments last night about wanting to return to Peru after his football career ends in the next year or two.

hmm why are you suprised by that?

guess he probably will want to play for his childhood favourite team in peru or something.

unsure why I was surprised.  Guess he'd been here so long and so used to the lifestyle, that I imagined he'd stay.

but I guess home is where the heart is....and it's nice that he still feels the pull/yearning to go back to Peru.

And have less cctv cameras and snoopers, and less war criminals, and less red tape, and less bins to put out, and better weather.

it sure does sound good, Gareth.  Amerika and the UK have gone to the dogs under their respective undemocratic juntas.

I'm with you on this one mate. I think our current stock of players is more than ample what is required in the squad. Nobby wouldn't bring anything to the team that we don't already have.
