The Tranmere match is a sell out, not sure how many the ground holds.

The players already back in pre-season training,
      Martin
      Degen
      Carragher
      Agger
      Dossena
      Pennant
      Lucas
      Guthrie
      Leto
      Benayoun
      Pacheco
      Carson
      Finnan
      Skrtel
      Insua
      Hammill
      Plessis
      Spearing
      Aurelio
      Voronin

Not sure if Gerrard is back yet.

Who do you think will play.

I don't know half of the young players, but I'll say to field an inexperienced side, to give them experience, if that makes sense.

                              Martin

      Degan        Insua         Agger             Dosenna

      Guthrie       Plessis       Spearing          Leto

                Pennant   Voronin

Ok so it's a bit of a mix match line up but why not? I'd love to see Pennant have a striker role and even he would look good alongside Voronin!

He's only a small lad though. Would he be able to do it up there by himself against thugish division 1 defenders?

Only striker we have back. Trust me, no other way he's getting in my side :D

Also, whats the point in playing Lucas? He is leaving us to play for Brazil when we could blood a youngster. Lucas can get match fit with the national side.

True he is only small, would be good to give him a shot though even if its just for one half, or with a strike partner.

Out of interest how come people like El Zhar, Bruna etc arent training. I know why some first teamers arent, but how comes these youngsters arent aswell ? anyone know ?

The thing is the second half will probably new XI so it is tough to say what players will be playing first half or second half but I think a lot of the reserve players will get a run out and if they impress then they will get a shot of going to Switzerland to train with the 1st team and play friendly's over there rather than staying with Gary and the reserve squad.

No, they're from Prenton in the Wirral. Other side of the Mersey river.

Martin, Degan, Agger, Carragher, Dossena, Pennant, Plessis, Spearing/Lucas, Leto/Hammill, Pacheco, Voronin.

I reckon that could be the starting line up. But then I could be totally wrong.

Out of interest how come people like El Zhar, Bruna etc arent training. I know why some first teamers arent, but how comes these youngsters arent aswell ? anyone know ?

With regard to El Zhar it could be because hes with the national team or was so hs due an extra week or 2 off

Don't think Lindfield is playing with the first team this pre season.

Well for what it's worth his profile picture shows him in the new training kit, could mean nothing in the end so I assume he was part of the training team that came in July 2nd.

Could be way off the mark but I just assume he was part of it

I think Rafa will but out a first half 11 and change the team completely for the 2nd half. Id imagine Degen and Dossena will start Voronin will probably start up top with nemeth with the likes of Pacheco getting a run in the 2nd half

      Ist half
      Martin
      Degen
      Sami
      Agger
      Insua
      Pennant
      Spearing
      Plessis
      Flynn
      Nemeth
      Voronin

      2nd half

      Gulasci
      Darby
      San Jose
      Skrtel
      Dossena
      Putterill
      Yossi
      Stevie G
      Aurelio (if fit)
      Pacheco
      Lindfield

hang on a minute lad, did Martin Skrtel look good against Havant and Waterlooville? So to say something along the lines of "oh it's tranmere, anyone can look good" just remember those first teamers who've performed sh*t against sides in lesser divisions than Tranmere.

I don't recall saying that at all mate I was mealy asking a question, yeah I agree Skrtel did look a bit off par in his first few games but he soon turned that around!

yeah he did, that's the point, he (skrtel) looked bad against a side four maybe five divisions below Tranmere. So if for example Voronin, scores a hattrick and sets up another four on Satday, please don't come out with "it's only tranmere". Not just you, but anybody. You can only beat what's put in front of you. That's my biggest arguement when "experts" belittle Crouch's record for England and the sides he scored against.

At the end of the day a win is a win. So if Voronin is man of the match he deserves the credit just as much as if it was Gerrard/Mascherano/Torres/Reina or Bob the f***in builder.

Too bloody right and Voronin did put in some really good performances against Crewe and Bremen last season.

Going to the ground at about 1pm in hope of a ticket.  I can't miss this.  Especially if it's only down the road.

I'm going for about 3 - 1 with Tranmere scoring first.  (They are stuffy bas**rds and always do sh*t like that).  But they always start sitting back and we'll hammer 3 right past them.

      Job done.

does it really matter where people from the Wirral are from? I remember me pal Joe sayin half the Wirral is Merseyside the other half is Cheshire.

Either way, the result will be 4-2 (just like the FA Cup in 2001 same year as they beat Everton 3-0 in the FA Cup  :lmao: )

Yeah.  You get your areas such as Birkenhead, Upton, linked in with Merseyside and the rest like West Kirby may as well all be Cheshire.  I also find a lot of Scousers have moved over to the other side of the Mersey.

      Anyway.

      Still going for 3 - 1!

24 hours away from kick off! So pumped for it, just itching to get the season started.

4-1 to the mighty reds. Benayoun and Voronin to score, yes the same Andriy Voronin who ran around on Anfield last season is on my score sheet.
