What languages would you love to know?

You people are getting too technical, i just want to learn another language to either:

A) Swear at others and they dont understand and;

B) Talk up women.

Chinese or Russian would be a couple of handy languages to have if you fancied yourself as a bit of a James Bond.

If you want JD, I can teach you some Russian. But as I know it's believed to be the most difficult language for foreigners.

Well I already speak English,Swedish and Hungarian, and I am now learning som finnish from my girlfriend, but I really want to learn Japanese (like there shows ,like when they are in school and they can not laugh if they do they get spankt:D) then German sounds cool to RAUS BITTE! ACTHUNG!, and Russian if I can russian I can understand most easter europians and some latin language.

As for me, only Russian is not enough to understand  any Slaves. At least two Slave languages can help understand the rest.
By my diploma, I should love any language. And speaking now I feel that's a linguistics specialist wakes up in me.
My native languages are Belarusian and Russian.So I can speak, write, understand and read very easily.
French is my first foreign language that I studied at school, at University and taught it to children at school. I'm happy I know French, it's very beautiful language. Thanks to my University professor, I can speak with French accent. I know from my friend who has been to France and told that French people had asked her whether she's French.It means we were taught real French.
The second foreign language for me is English. Can say to learn English after French is very easy because many words have similar spelling
I also know some Polish. Can understand it like my native ones. It's very very very similar to Belarusian.We only write with Cyrillic letters
I even don't speak about Ukrainian
As I noticed Belarusian are more alike to Polish and Ukrainian.
A week ago I started to learn Spanish on my own.

it's similar to French.But it's nothing amazing because Spanish and French are Romantic languages
can a little read in German, Italian Nada know some phrases and words.
Especially Italian unwritten words!
Wanted to learn Swedish, but it couldn't happen.
Now I want to study Spanish, May I be able to travel to Agentina to find my relatives living there.
In the future I'd like to know many many languages.

I understand you!!! It's like a game! To speak a language no one understands. We did it at University.

When I was in Russia I speak Belarusian to make Russian think a lot to understand what I was talking about!

For that reason you need to learn Belarusian! I can confirm that many won't understand you even in Belarus!

Spanish sounds much better though. I think ladies would enjoy abit of 'Hola senorita' rather than Belarussian

I'm sure Belarusian is the most melodious of all Slave languages.
If I write you with Cyrillic letters you won't understand. However I can solve that problem by writing with Latin ones, but take into account there are sounds which don't exist in English. "Pryvitanne, dzyawchaty!" how much time will take you to learn to enunciate it?
And if you start speaking Belarusian in Belarus, can assure you everyone will be stricken dumb!

Judging by some of the posts we have to edit/delete on this board, I think English might be a handy starting point for some.

Hmm okay, i hade a Croatian friend in Volvo when i workt, and he could understand most of the slav languages, only problem he hade was to understand Belarusian, ithink it was for they where many SSSSSS in there words or something like that.

In my native language there's not a lot of ssss. It could be Russian
It's funny! Few people in Belarus speak Belarusian. So I think it wasn't Belarusian language.  However it also can be a mixture of Russian and Belarusian languages.
 It's possible to distinguish it by such sounds like Ch or [g]. The last one is similar to Ukrainian too.

Why? is it so difficult?

I can understand and speak some German and I can speak Irish but not fluently. I can read Latin but not speak it.

Just came across this thread and thought I'd bring it back to life,as a country we English are mostly ignorant to a foreign tongue thinking that everyone else should speak English.I myself do try and learn at least some of the language when I go abroard,to me me it is a common courtesy and you will find it is appreciated by most local's and go's a long way to help your stay.I would love to be able to speak every tongue in the world just to communicate and be friendly thus create peace and harmony.

Learn a language it go's a long way even if it's just greeting's.

Last time I was in Malta I tried to learn at least a few words, and a few swear words. Can't remember any now but I'm going back in August so I'll try and pick some more up.

Also, when I was last in Spain I tried as hard as I could to use as much Spanish as possible. Asking for a travel plug was quite funny though. Imagine this in Scouse...

Learnt a bit of German when i worked over there learnt to count pretty quick as they still had their own currency and and the change you got was never right had a right old go in a restaurant with a lady who thought i was a dumb tourist who couldn't count i won,also love Spanish i know a few phrases and always try to learn some more when i go to Spain .

Haqq ghaz-zobb --> (it means 'f**k the penis') but for us it will offend someone

I rememember my brother-in-law when we were in Kardamena on Kos in 91 trying to order a bandana in greek,when the assistant said"do yer wanna buy a bandana mate!"I just dropped to the floor in stitches the guy was a student from England

I know good deal of French because I've been studying it for 4 years but I'm not so fluent but I can construct sentences and maybe able to speak to french people . And bits of Japanese ...I used to watch Japanese amine with subtitles and I can sing it's theme song too ! And a bit of Spanish since I"m breaking my head to read As and El Mundo Deportvio .

But I would like to speak it fluently and also Spanish ( so if I ever go to Spain I can hit on the guys there  ) Arabic ...it's so wicked and I would love to learn how to write it also ( me friend can write Arabic) , and Japanese ...more than speaking I would like to learn to write it .

I'd like to know Russian, Urdu, Mandarin, Japanese and Spanish.

Maybe Greek also.
