      Rafa's new Rotation
      Aug 21, 2008 09:12:26 am
Tensions are running high at Anfield as owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks continue to struggle to find funding for Liverpool Football Club. After months of scrambling for funds for the new stadium and Gareth Barry, Gillett and Hicks today refused to fund long sleeves for defender Jamie Carragher's jersey. The Reds' Vice Captain has played in long sleeves for years, but today was forced into a short sleeve jersey for the season opening match against Sunderland. With funding available for only one long sleeve jersey, Manager Rafael Benitez chose to dress his star striker Fernando Torres in long sleeves. Torres responded with a game-winning goal in the 83rd minute.

"It is a concern, yes, as we would like to have many options for the players' jerseys," admitted Benitez, "but we knew today we could only have one player in the long sleeves, and we had a lot of confidence in Carra, and he is a good professional, no? All along I had confidence he could play in the short sleeves."

Benitez refused to say whether he would rotate his players in and out of the long sleeve jersey, saying, "We will do what is best for the Club. If we feel it is best for Carra to be in the long sleeves, then he will have the long sleeves. If we feel it is best for Torres, or for Babel, then one of them will have the long sleeves."

"Me arms go'a bit cold," admitted Carragher, "but I knew I 'ad to play through it, 'n we 'ere able to come through wit a victory, 'n 'ats what mat'ers."

Ha Ha, what are your thourts.

One player in long sleeved shirts? Are we that hard up?

It's farcical, and a joke that any club in the top flight has to resort to limiting players to one long sleeve shirt per match?

WTF !!  Surely this has to be a joke  ???

I can't believe for one minute that a club the size of Liverpool would resort to only allowing one player to wear a long sleeved shirt.

Surely this should be a players personal choice, as to which shirt they play in.

That is sooo pathetic. Why don't the american t***t's get a grip and start putting some money into the club. The only only money they seemed to of given Rafa is a few million for Torres and a few million for Mascherano :|

Further attempts by Rick Parry to transfer long sleeved shirts from the club shop have failed after the owners refused to sanction the expenditure.  Rick said the shirts are clearly overpriced.  We've made what we consider is a reasonable offer and the next move is up to the shop.  The shop manager stated that the price is not unreasonable given what you have to pay for similar shirts in the premiership and that if the team want the shirts they will have to meet the price stated on the label.  The shop manager pointed out that there is a 10% discount for fancard holders but Parry responded that he wasn't paying the exorbitant price for a fancard either.

Meanwhile Parry is now exploring the cost of an Everton shirt as there is very little demand and every order over three is considered a bulk buy.

Buy a Lumpard shirt - they're bulk buys on their own.

I've read on this website http://seriousfootbalmattersseriously.com/lfc/airheadsutd//can'tthinkofmorestuff that the players are being asked by H&G to buy their long sleeves in the club shop.
This will eventually bring up the club revenue.

I'm with H&G on this issue, the players are bleeding us dry, but give nothing whatsoever back to the club.
H&G bring us sound business plans, fantastic football ideas, invisible stadiums and also nearly got us a German manager with an unparallelled track record in club management.
What do the players give us. Running about the field after a football ball all once a week.

      Ha Ha, your thourts;
