Didn't watch all of it but I'm loving this opening ceremony

Brilliant to see Muhammad Ali there as well, in my eyes the greatest sportman of all time.

I don't even listen to Hey Jude these days anymore, kinda of find it boring, but having watched Paul McCartney live 3 times in my life, I gotta say it is really powerful alive, a lot of fun to sing along with everybody

Enjoyed that, well in Danny Boyle!

Right so, swimming and rowing heats to look forward to tomorrow and a special one for me, the men's cycling road race.

Going to have no life during the Games! Will be watching as much as possible during the weekends and I've taken the second week off and have some tickets to a few events.

Great start tonight, love how Boyle didn't try and outdo Beijing at all. Just did his own unique, British production. Fantastic.

Young athletes lit copper petals with then converged to form the cauldron.

      Epic.

The Cauldron is in the centre of the stadium. Won't that get in the way of the athletics?

It's being moved before the athletics start.

       It wasn't really a cauldron.
      Individual copper petals on stems.
When lit they raised up to become central and form a large flame.

No doubt all the performance areas will be stripped out right away.

Loved that ceremony. Was almost choking up in that first half hour what with the Nimrod start and then the countryside turning into an industrial monster. Loved Mike Oldfield as well. Was absolutely stunning and made me proud to be British. I can't begin to imagine how Danny Boyle and all those thousands involved felt.

Oh and Mr Bean playing in the Chariots of Fire theme was just perfect! Made me really proud to be British, which doesn't come often these days.

I know that but it's a damn sight easier to say 'the cauldron' than 'individual stems with petals set on fire which converge to form the shape of a cauldron' don't you agree?

It had my full attention and I was captivated by it. It surpassed my expectations and demonstrates that we can deliver something really special when we put our minds to it. I felt a sense of national pride tonight.

Thought Danny Boyle, all the other creatives and organizers and ALL the amazing volunteers did a FANTASTIC job tonight.

Utterly superb. Very proud and a little emotional whilst watching that. Its been a good year for us Brits putting on a spectacular show.

      Absolutely brilliant.

Loved every minute from for the opening ceremony and Danny Boyle done an excellent job as I expected him to.

Also great support from the volunteers and thought the up and coming athletes lighting the torch was a nice touch.
