      Robinho to Man City
      Sep 01, 2008 11:34:24 pm
      Confirmed deal.  £32.5 M.

Something seriously wrong when Man City can spend £10M more than one player than we can in the whole transfer window AND when we receive all our Champions League money.

      Absolutely!

Wonder what will be our next move? Increase the imaginary stadiums capacity to 75,000 to make us all feel better?

Its saying on SSN that it was in fact £34million

Personally I think he will flop, he will have all the expectation on his shoulders and his form goes in spells. He is too skillful and will just get out muscled because he struggled in La Liga when he was receiving a few beatings and the prem is much more physical.

Good luck Robinho, by the way I hear you will be able to out muscle some fella called Skrtel though, hear he is a real pansy :D  ::)

If Dimitar and Robinho are both worth > £30M then I reckon that puts my valuation over the £10M mark.

If Liverpool pony out this kind of money on Robinho I would seriously think someone is losing it, he isn't worth that much even in today's current market.

This really reminds me of the Tevez/Javi deal West Ham pulled out on the deadline a few years ago.

Just read this great column on Robinho and said what i thought when they signed him. Also just to add, i was worried seeing when they get taken over by a Middle Eastern consortium, they spend big dosh and their owner says there is no limit to money. DIC! DIC! DIC!

They have spent 10m more than our record signing, that speaks volumes. Anyway, onto the article:

      The right move for Robinho?

The big question left by transfer window day is this: Does Robinho now regret working so hard to create an environment where it was not possible for him to continue at Real Madrid?

All summer he has been trying to force his way out of the Bernabeu - but he imagined that Chelsea would be there to catch him, and a compatriot coach in Luiz Felipe Scolari would be there to boost his confidence and bring out the best in him.

Instead of which, it is Mark Hughes and Manchester City - and for all their money and ambitious talk, it is a strange setting for his stated objective of being considered the best player in the world.

Robinho takes with him to the North West of England the guarantee that he will produce the odd breathtaking moment of individual skill to warm frozen Mancunian hearts over the next few months.

But will he come up with enough to be truly decisive when the silverware is handed out? Enough to really put himself in contention for the Fifa World Player Award? These questions hold no such guarantees.

During last June's 0-0 draw at home to Argentina in World Cup qualification, the local media had a camera trained on Brazil coach Dunga, and a lip-reading specialist trying to decipher what he was saying to his assistant. One of the things that Dunga is presumed to have said is "Robinho looks scared."

It is an interesting assessment. Last year Robinho was named as the outstanding player in the Copa America.

But there were few magic moments in the final against Argentina, which Brazil won 3-0, and even fewer in the semi final against Uruguay, which Brazil scraped through on penalties.

His truly great performances came in the two meetings with Chile, a 3-0 win in a group game and a 6-1 rout in the quarter final. Both times Robinho was dazzling.

But Chile were not only very poor defensively, they were also falling apart after internal discipline problems.

Indeed, the Copa America gave extra evidence for the view that, so far, Robinho is something of a rabbit killer, a slayer of the weak who can look fragile against the strong.

Real Madrid clearly don't rate him anything like as highly as Cristiano Ronaldo - Robinho's desire to leave the Bernabeu dates from the moment this became clear.

He has been roundly criticised in Brazil for his behaviour in attempting to force a move to Chelsea.

It has brought back memories of 2005 when he pulled the same trick - and even refused to play for a while - to oblige Santos to sell him to Spain.

One of Brazil's leading pundits, Paulo Vinicius Coelho, wrote that "the strike at Santos and the lack of professionalism at Real...show that the star is still a spoilt child, that he hasn't become a man." But he has now become a Man City player.

The 24-year-old loves to cultivate an image of the happy-go-lucky jokester. But it can come across as a little contrived. Certainly Arrigo Sacchi seemed to think so.

The ex-Milan boss was working at Real Madrid in Robinho's early days there, and felt that the young Brazilian's problems settling in were down to a lack of self-esteem.

From a Man City point of view, one worrying aspect of the deal is the difficulties Robinho has had in adapting to Spanish football.

In Brazil, fouls are given for the slightest physical contact. In Europe, the criteria is different. Many times with Real, Robinho went to ground looking for a free kick, and was then seen swearing in Portuguese when he didn't get the decision.

In the Premier League he can expect more physical contact and less space to work in.

But this is the space that he has now chosen for himself. It will be fascinating to see how he copes with his new challenge.

Will he light up the English winter with virtuoso displays? Or will he struggle and soon pull another sulk job in attempt to force an exit from the club he has just joined?

he has only settled for 2nd best, he would have probably gone to Boro had they been the only team to have an offer accepted, thats how bad he wanted out.

He wont ever be as happy as they say he will be at city because he had his heart set on a move to chelsea and said so many time he wanted to go to chelsea.
Just another expenisve flop is how i think he will turn out

It might not have made Chelsea the Kings of Europe, but it made them Champions and if John Terry could put a penalty away they might have been.

If Man City spend, and spend on the right players, of course they could be a threat.

It's really going to depend on what kind of start they make to this season. If they're badly placed come the January transfers, this could have a negative effect on their possible signings, who would want European football the following season, and probably CL to be honest.

Pele has said Chelsea were lucky to miss out on the signing of Robinho because the Brazilian "needs counselling".

Robinho's move to Manchester City has not gone down well in his homeland, with many baffled that he left Real Madrid for a juicy contract with the newly rich City, thought to be worth around £6million a year.

Pele said: "Chelsea are lucky. This boy needs some serious counselling. In my view he has been badly advised."

Indeed, Pele's words could be seen as a ringing endorsement in comparison to the views of some other figures in Brazilian football.

Marcelo Teixeira, the president of Santos where both Pele and Robinho started their careers said:

"This is one of the most disgraceful episodes in Brazilian football.

"He is a player who is an idol to children, an example. But he has not acted like one."

And Santos general manager, Jose Fernandos, added: "We are ashamed at having produced such a player."

Add to this Ramon Calderon's statement that Robinho cried at every meeting regarding his move away from Real, and you have the image of a player who may cause a few problems at City.

Criticised by the ultimate idol in Brazilian football. As one of the comments said, can you see any other Brazilian player going to City now? Ha!

Thing is, untill they have won something then they wont be much of a 'wanted destination' if you will for big players.

They can buy Robinho but honestly, as someone has rightly stated, not even Boro but if Wigan put in that money he would have signed.

They can day dream all they like but there are 4 clubs in England, not 5.

However, it appeared the 24-year-old's deadline day move had still to sink in when he said: "On the last day, Chelsea made a great proposal and I accepted."

To this a reporter replied: "You mean Manchester, right?". "Yeah, Manchester, sorry!" answered Robinho.

      Robinho set for City exit
Cup tie at Scunthorpe likely to be Brazilian's last game for club

Robinho has confirmed he is set to leave Manchester City and his appearance against Scunthorpe United is likely be his last for the club.

The Brazilian attacker has struggled to perform on a consistent basis for City since joining the club from Real Madrid for a British transfer record fee in September 2008.

He now looks to be on his way out of the City of Manchester Stadium after telling a Brazilian radio station that he has been advised by the club that he is likely to be sold.

The appointment of Roberto Mancini as City boss has not helped to improve Robinho's prospects at the club after he missed three months earlier in the season with an ankle injury.

He struggled to win his place back under Mark Hughes and the arrival of Mancini had been tipped to give Robinho a new lease of life at the club.

Though he started Mancini's first game against Stoke City on Boxing Day, he has been largely restricted to a substitute's role.

And, in last week's 2-0 Premier League defeat at Everton, Robinho was introduced as an early replacement for the injured Roque Santa Cruz before being hauled off just after the hour mark.
      Not interesting

Robinho, who turns 26 on Monday, admits that Mancini is unable to guarantee him a regular role in his plans and that is one reason for his imminent departure.

"The coach was very sincere with me and said that I would play every other match," Robinho told Radio Bandeirantes.

"I told him that would not be interesting to me, it's a World Cup year."

The forward has been named in City's starting line-up for Sunday's FA Cup fourth-round tie at Scunthorpe and it appears it will be the final time he will pull on a blue shirt.

Prior to his outing at Glanford Park, Robinho had scored 15 goals in 52 appearances for the club and has regularly been linked with a return to Spain, with European champions Barcelona rumoured to be interested.

Robinho may now rejoin former club Santos on loan, adding: "The financial situation is important, but being happy also counts.

"The directors all agree that it's better to send me out on loan.

"It would be exceptional to return to Santos. Playing for Santos would help me in my path to the World Cup. It is my home, I know everyone."

Robinho also revealed that his friend and compatriot Diego had told him to join him at Juventus, but that he had responded: "Di, I would do better to go fishing. No, I'm going to Brazil."

       :lmao:

I'm laughing not only for the news but also the line in bold ("Di, I would do better to go fishing"). Robinho said to Diego he'd do better going to Santos, his former club in Brazil, which is nicknamed "Peixe" ("Fish"). Skysports translated it as "to go fishing" :lmao:

He'd be good if went back to La Liga or a foreign league.

He's just not the right type of player to be here though.

      He is not sh*t

I think Hughes's reign didnt help him, it was clear Hughes didnt like him therefore couldnt settle in team and with the team.. New manager has come in but still have the same squad... Attitude problems could be but City move was always a wrong move for him.. He will come good... watch him the world cup.. he will be class.

£30 million they paid, didn't they? And something daft like £150,000 per week salary.

Puts our failed signings like Dossena in perspective. Be interested to see how much they get back for him, not that money matters for them, of course.

Comes to something though when Benjani and Bellamy are a bigger threat than him who has played for Madrid and is supposed to be a top quality player .
