      Help! Problems connecting to internet
      Jul 13, 2009 10:01:14 pm
Hey guys, i'm hoping one of you can help me here.

Every time i try to connect to most sites on the net, such as google, facebook etc, i get a message saying this:

      Address Not Found

www.google.ie could not be found. Please check the name and try again.

The browser could not find the host server for the provided address.

          *  Did you make a mistake when typing the domain? (e.g. "ww.mozilla.org" instead of

          *  Are you certain this domain address exists?  Its registration may have expired.

          *  Are you unable to browse other sites?  Check your network connection and DNS server settings.

          *  Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy?  Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.

This appears for almost all sites. I think i was able to access the forum either by good luck or good taste!

I've tried the basics such as restarting the laptop and switching the wireless router on and off, but all to no avail.  Hopefully there are some computer boffins who can give me some advice.

I was planning to google my problem, but even they got knocked back :(

      Thanks in advance

Tried that mate.  It was the same with google chrome and IE.  I am using firefox.  Haven't a clue what's going on, it was working fine this morning.  I just got logged out of here for a half hour or so, and then it reconnected now.  ???

      Cheers anyway

      DNS problems with your ISP.

You should enter the two OpenDNS server addresses in to your router and not rely on ISP's.

Happened to me before that - its a shitty ISP thing - one day it forgot where Google was.

OpenDNS nameservers are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.

I get this, as the internet connection in my village is crap.  sometimes if you use a router, it just needs re-setting.  turn the router off and back on again, and it usually does the trick.  if not, than as JD says it your isp server!

There was a problem with eircom's nameservers yesterday so the above solution would have sorted you out.

Many thanks lads for all the help.  Used your solution JD, and it seems to have done the trick.

Once again, thanks for all the replies.  :gt-happyup:

Well since we are on the subject...

I have a BT Homehub (yes, unlucky me), and it seems to work fine for about 3 weeks and then it all of a sudden one day won't connect to my router any more. It says that it's too far away from the router, but my Xbox which is right next to my PC is connecting fine, with no problems at all. I appreciate that this might have something to do with the wireless adapter thing, but it works absolutely fine and then suddenly stops.

I can temporarily fix it by just reinstalling the software from the disc, but I'd rather look for a long term fix than have to keep reinstalling every month or so..

Think you're problem was the first 5 words of your second sentence.

I haven't got a homehub, but I am sure a lot of people do have who may be able to help you better. I thought the homehub was the router?

It is, and it's a piece of sh*te. I can connect to the network, but it doesn't put me through to the internet. Seems to have started working now for about a week. Just reinstalled the drivers for my NIC.
