The What the Hell was I thinking thread?

Reading the posts by Cas and Debs about their kids going missing brought to mind the time my youngest lad went walkabout, it was on a Sunday morning and Liz my wife woke me to tell me the front door was open when she walked down the stairs.
I jumped out of bed thinking sh*t it mustn't have shut properly last night then had a look around to check everything was ok, went into the kids room and our Leon's bed was empty!! You can't imagine the panic and horror that took over as we searched everywhere in the house,garage,garden without any sign of him.
I forgot to mention he was only three at the time so Liz is getting hysterical and I'm panicking meself then there was a knock on the door and there was a lad I knew with our Leon by his side,it turns out he'd woken up before anyone else gone downstairs and he'd only just been able to reach the door handle a few days before so he must have wanted to explore-so off he went in his pyjamas.
It seems the lad found him about half a mile down the road by some shops but to get there he had to cross a dual carriageway with mad traffic and various roads on the way-were we glad to see him, he hasn't changed tho he's still a tear arse.

Stuey, that's frightening mate. Glad to hear that young lad found him and brought him home safe and sound.

LLL, you're right mate. You need eyes in the back of your head all the time with kids, little buggars are always getting up to mischief, God love 'em.

When I think back about the stuff that could have happened to him it makes me shiver Aussie mate.
If it hadn't been Sunday and quiet with the traffic he would have been hit for sure that's without thinking about the other stuff that could have happened-the gods were happy that day mate.
