I think it's a bit simple to say Rafa shouldn't have let him go.
Arbeloa was letting his contract run down, wanted to return to Spain, so Rafa was left with the choice of selling him, or keeping him for one more year then letting him go for free.
Footballing-wise, I always liked Arbeloa. He was very consistent, and versatile as he could play any position defensively. However, he made his choice, and I think Johnson is a good replacement.
The two have different styles of play, but you cannot deny Johnson offers a great deal to the team offensively. I think in time he will become a very dependable player for us.
In the end, it's a little unrealistic to expect Arbeloa's replacement to be a carbon-copy of him.
