You're right kopster, he always talks about his preferred position is CM in his autobiography, and I thought that was his best position.
But that was before Torres came so now I think just behind him and now Keane, but it all depends on what Rafa's preferred formation is.
Agree about the middle LFC Viking.
I've always thought he's best in the middle. He always makes those dangerous runs right up the middle of the pitch with our without the ball and it causes all sorts of mayhem for the opposition. If he's got the ball you know he's going to either make a beautiful pass or he can let rip and usually trouble the keeper. If he hasn't got the ball he gets in some brilliant positions with lightening speed and makes himself easy to pass to for the player on the ball.
The thing that ironically hinders him is that he's so diverse to where he can play. He's fantastic playing behind Torres and he's also fantastic playing out on the right.
With the addition of Robbie Keane it's going to be interesting to see how it affects our attacking formation now, especially where Gerrard is concerned.
A lot of people will have noticed the attacking formation last night when we started the game. Torres was further up front, with Keane more to the left and Kuyt more to the right, which seen Gerrard in the middle getting forward behind Torres.
Torres
Keane Kuyt
Gerrard
Then you had Dossena making those increasingly characteristic backwards and forwards runs up and down the left. With Arbeloa getting up with the attack on the right. And Benayoun floating from side to side in the midfield.
I could very easily be wrong, but I've got a feeling Rafa might try this to accommodate Gerrard still getting up with Torres, yet still seeing him being able to get back in the middle alongside Mascherano. But this could affect Babel's place in the team if he's picking Benayoun to float.
Personally I'd like to see Gerrard bang in the middle of the engine room. In my opinion that's more beneficial to himself and the attack because of those surging runs.
