Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano has hit out at Liverpool for the way they handled his and Fernando Torres's exits - even though he left the club of his own choice.

The Argentina international described as "sad" the manner in which players had to leave a club they had served well, claiming "the people at Liverpool didn't show interest in keeping" them, even though he rejected a contract offer to stay at Anfield.

Following Torres's £50 million transfer to Chelsea on deadline day the Spaniard has been castigated for his comments suggesting he is better off at Stamford Bridge than he was at Anfield.

"I was not surprised about what happened with Fernando," Mascherano was quoted as saying by ESPN.

"When I left Liverpool, it looked as if I killed someone. It is sad that the people who did something important with the club have to leave by the back door.

"It is sad that the press and the club try to convince people that it is all the player's fault when the reality is that Liverpool didn't show the interest in keeping us in the club.

"The most important players didn't leave the club well. I spoke with Fernando and I said to him that he doesn't have to be worried because he did his best for the club. Even though he didn't win any trophies, he was a very important player and helped this club all the time."

And it's "sad" that Torres handed in a transfer request 3 days before the deadline after the club broke their transfer record for a supplemental striker on the same day?

It's not true at F***ing all! Mascherano refused to play a game, and Torres was a c**t when he left. You leave under sh*te circumstances, you get whats coming. Don't defend what he is saying, because its all F***ing crap. He's just bitter cos his career has gone to sh*t since he left.

We wanted to keep Torres, like how we wanted to keep him. The club said 'Not for sale' for both of them but both wanted to leave the club on their own terms. Masch wanted to leave ever since before last season started but only told him he could leave after and he did, enjoying warming the bench and watching Lionel Messi play. Torres handed in a transfer request and his body language since the end of last seaseon clearly showed he had no desire to play for us.

It's not the fact that Torres and Masch leaving that disturbs us. It's the manner. Mascherano didn't want to play against Man City. Torres' move is the exact opposite of what he has said in the past and he is the exact person of who we thought he was. More importantly, they are what they are because of Liverpool FC.

Stupid Mascherano. Before commenting on how we don't want to show effort to keep you and Torres, think again. We sang your name time and time again and also, and if you're implying we don't show appreciation to important players who left the club, you and Torres didn't show appreciation to the fans and club that make you what you are.

Xabi Alonso, Alvaro Arbeloa, Sami Hyypia, Danny Murphy and even Ryan Babel are still respected, aren't they?

There is a right and a wrong way of doing things. Alonso, big Sami, little Luis etc are all welcomed back to Anfield at any time because they didn't screw us and left with dignity. Masch refused to play against Man City on the afternoon of the game, that other f***in gimp fu**ed us with 3 days to go of a transfer window.

The moral of the story is, if you act like a gent, you'll be treated like a gent.  If you act like a c**t, you'll be treated like a c**t.
