For one those disappointed fans you mention, won't be real fans but greedy boneheaded morons who can go into work and throw it in the face of their man u or chelsea colleagues, not real fans, the real fans have faith in Dalglish knowing what players our squad needs.

I hate the phrase "marquee signing" we should be signing players because they fit into the team and our style of play, not just buy players to sell shirts or because they have an exotic sounding name.

Well said. We don't need a big name just for the sake of it. Something good is being built again and only someone who will add to that on the pitch should come. I agree that only 2 or 2 players of good quality is needed. And of course getting rid of some of the deadwood that's there!!

I agree with you, HR. I'd rather see players that would fit in well to the system and club's philosophy rather than players who can sell alot of shirts.

Anyways, I agree with Steve Clarke to a certain extent. Back in January, it looked as though we needed a whole new team.

We didn't. Yeah, we do need maybe at least three quality players and then maybe another one or two good players.

What we needed in January was a manager who can instill belief into the players. A manager than can be that inspirational figure when the players on the pitch needed one. Not exactly inspirational to see a slouching face rubbing Roy Hodgson, is it?

That is why this "average squad" and "another manager would also yield similar results with similar players" wasn't true. The squad needed an inspiration manager and Kenny is that man.

Doesn't matter what the name of the player sounds like, people want a "marquee signing" because they want players of the very highest quality. More importantly it should depend on the quality of the player and how'd he fit into the team. I was just making the point that people keep predicting or wanting players of the very highest caliber could potentially be disappointed, then the forum would turn into a moan fest when fans didn't get the player they dream of on FIFA.

I don't care who we get, as long as they fit into the team well and give us a strong team.

Please look at FSG's record of signings, in either baseball or in the case of Suarez and Carroll, you really think they are going to get so-so players?

Sometimes you can be surprised by some "so-so" players. Just the same as buying overhyped players for lots of dosh and finding they're not as good as they were made out to be.

Case in point - Ryan Babel!!

How many people on here have stated that had Kenny been in charge from last July we'd have either won the title or been in the mix !
IMO we can do the job with the squad we've got, admittedly all clubs buy in these days to save falling behind but I'm just reminding everyone that we thought kenny could have brought home the holy grail had he had the full season to go at !
so Clarke's not far of the mark.

It's a good point frizzby. I didn't mention Kenny but when a lot of people were questioning the quality of the squad I said that a good manager would have us competing for at least a European place. The squad was never as bad as Roy made it look.

But in saying that you always have to be moving forward and as most of us seem to agree on here we need to get rid of the players who haven't contributed much and get in a few top quality signings and we will be a strong squad for next season.

Blatantly obvious.  I truly dire season which repeated the season before it. It's also been a season of celebration with he exit of Hicks and Gillet and inevitably Hodgson after his woeful tenure. Kenny returning and Suarez and Carroll ( has a lot to prove but far too early o judge) coming to the club has given us all renewed optimism and enthusiasm. The squad needs serious investment and strengthening in the summer. The lack of pace in the team is most concerning I swear most of our players today looked like they were running in quick sand The lack of pace and guile on the flanks has to be addressed too. All in all we can look forward to a big summer because FSG realise they have to invest The last two losses to Spurs and Villa respectively have hopefullly given Kenny a wake up call because I was surprised he stated in his press conference we only need some tinkering. Sorry Kenny I can't agree with that This team needs at least 6 players brought in with 6 going out with Cole.Ngog,Jova,Poulsen the prime candidates for the exit

Â¨..think is fairly obvious we need more than a bit of tinkering...¨          We were coming from several wins in a row and that could have given the owners some wrong idea,so if we can take something good from these last two sour games is that message for them.

I know that people expect a complete overhaul of the squad in the summer, but I am not convinced that we will complete our rebuilding in a single transfer window ... After the 2 additions and 2 subtractions to our squad in January, I expect 5-6 departures in the summer, and 3-4 additions at most ... Of course, combined with the promotion of some young players from our Reserves ...
