My all time favourite is Pele.
I cant understand people who claim they didnt see him play. Well, TV had already been invented, and there is plenty of footage.Maradona second best ive seen, and i did see him play live plenty of times against Uruguay(glad to say we won most of the times, exept for the Mexico 86 match).
Those 2 are a cut above the rest OF THE ONES PEOPLE CAN ACTUALLY SEE FOOTAGE.
Im going to name some less known players, but the greatest of their time. You can llok into their carrers if you like, there is plenty of info o the net. If you want more, i have tons on South American Footballers.
Greatest player of the 20s 30s, Hector Scarone, winner of EVERYTHING. WC, Olympic Gold twice( when O Games acted as WC), 4 times South American Chapion, and much more.
Juan Alberto Schiaffino, Greatest player of the 40s shone in Uruguay winner of everything. Still regarded as one of Milan greatest players of all time and star of the greates AC Milan in History. Many Milan fans still come to his grave in Montevideo.
Garrincha, i love this guy, amazing dribbler, and one of the best dribblers of all time second to Rivelino.( or first depending on who you ask)
Pedro Virgilio Rocha, Star of the 60s and 70s, shone wherever he played. Some say he was the best Uruguayan player of all time, but he injured himself before the 1970 WC. He was trully amazing
Ermindo Onega, Pinino Mas,Argentinian Wizards.
Alberto Spencer, Gretaest South American Goalscorer of the 60s, and star of the best team in the world of that era. From Ecuador.
Juan Joya, Amazin Peruvian player and one of the best wingers in history
