Reds Draw Reading In The Carling Cup
      Sep 01, 2007 12:34:47 pm
      From .tv

Liverpool will travel to Reading in the third round of the Carling Cup.
The tie will take place at the Madejski Stadium on either Tuesday/Wednesday, September 25th/26th.

Liverpool played Steve Coppell's side at the same stage of the Carling Cup last season and won a seven goal thriller 4-3 at Anfield.

The Reds have won this competition a record seven times and last won it in 2003 when they beat Manchester United 2-0 at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium, thanks to goals from Steven Gerrard and Michael Owen.

Well I would've liked to have drawn lower league opposition to see some of our kids get a run out in this competition, but it's not the worst draw we could've got. It'll be interesting to see Rafa's approach to the Carling Cup this season, personally I would like to see us take the Arsenal approach & put out a lot of our youngsters, but not to the extent they do, I feel there should still be a few experienced players amongst them.

I see no reason why we still can't play the youngsters, and I sincerely hope Rafa does.

I think a lot of them will be praying for their chance, and it will be a fantastic opportunity for some of them to attempt to break through.

It will be an interesting tie that - especially being at the Madjeski stadium.

      Poor Arsenal have Newcastle.

Hmm....Reading are good at putting 10 men behind the ball...this could be a dull and boring game....Benayoun needs to play it.

Have to agree with you on that. I think the likes of Leto should get a fair crack as he looked quite tidy against the frogs. I almost choked though how come we get Reading two years on the trot , wonder what the odds on that are?? Oh well should be good game will look forward to it.

Idrizaj hasn't gone on loan this season has he? I'd like to see him given a shot in this competition.

Yeah he went to Crystal Palace! Year long loan! Would have been good in the Carling Cup games though! More match experience for him in the Championship!

Isnt it typical that we get a prem team away and the urinals and chavs get lower league opposition, having said that we should still be able to beat Reading with our second string.

We should have enough quality to beat them with our second side out as coppell likes to rest a few aswell 4-3 again?

Liverpool have taken the whole of the South Stand (should be about 2000 tickets I think the stand holds about 2300 so hopeful as its mid week, on telly and the Carling Cup of getting tickets. If theres any season ticket holders who want the match on their Fan Card you can PM me  :-* Failing that I`ll have to take the chances when they will go on general sale to Fan Card holders  :'(

Come Liverpoolfc.tv FFS put the selling criteria up

I seem to remember last year that reading had their 2nd string out for the cups, so this should be a battle of the 2nd teams

It's a tricky tie I suppose. But a team who need a good cup run and aklso a team which we need to dispose of. Odds on that Itandje starts between the sticks, but obviously the main talking point is what the other ten turns out to be. I'm gonna go with some previous predictions that Babel will get his game up front with Voronin and little Jay Spearing to be given a fair bit of play:
      Itandje
      Arbeloa
      Carragher
      Hyypia
      Aurelio
      Pennant
      Lucas
      Sissoko
      Leto
      Babel
      Voronin

I doubt it will be 4-3 though. I'll go for a 3-1 win. Babel to ive Liverpool the lead but Reading to equalise. I then believe that the RedMen will come up trumps late on with a gosl for Voronin and maybe a Hyypia header ;)
