Agreed but it doesn't change how brilliant he was as a player.

Well imo Barnesy was a better player and man!

Some of the things I've seen him do with a ball, Souness wishes he could do.

Kenny will always be king for doing what he did on the pitch and most importantly off the pitch too,Big shoulders has kenny and if gerrad could half replicate what kenny has done off the pitch for this club and city then stevie still would not be considered as king.

      Long live the King.

I am lucky enough to have seen both Kenny and Stevie play, the differences between the era's are masive to be fair, in Kenny's day, the pitches were different, the football was different, life was different, it's true that Kenny had better quality players around him but he still had to do it, would Rushy have been the goal scorer he was without Kenny?

Kenny did rise above the players he played with, thats how special he was, people talk of Cryuff, Best, Pele, Beckenbaur, Brietner, Nieskins and plenty more, i would only have Pele, Best and Cryuff in front of Kenny as the best in the world ever, even today, thats how special Kenny was,

Stevie would have shone in those days to, no doubt about it, but tbh, i could'nt place Stevie as a top 5 in the world then, but 4-5 years ago i would say Gerrard would have been in the top 5 midfielders/complete players in the world, in today's game stick Kenny in any top team and he would stand out without doubt and still be in the top 5 in the world, that to me is the difference,

Stevie has been and still is our best player for many a year, he has still got plenty of miles left to, when he does lift the 19th, 20th title i still think Kenny would be King, both are legends always will be, but Kenny will always be King because he remains imo the 4th best player ever to play the game,

Billy that sums it up - for me Kenny was the best player in the best team in Europe for nearly 10 years. That's what made him so special on the park.

Yeah your probably right there Scotia, and managed by the best manager in British footballing history, Kenny nor his peers had any ego's to look after either, they all did it for the love of the game, purely and simply because they appreciated the priveledged position they were in, some were talented individuals who shone very brightly, others were gifted with a talent that they were born with and could'nt be taught,  Kenny fell into this categorie, and he lit up many a talent he shared a pitch with.

For the interests of best in world players Keith, i would say, Pele, Best and Cruyff, were just ahead of Kenny

Its hard to judge them against each other given the time between when they both played. The fact is Stevie did drag the team to victory on many many occasions just by his presence on the field others played better. If you compare the 2005 team to the great European Cup sides there wont be a great debate about how many from 2005 could get in any of the other 4 winning cup sides.
Throughout his career Stevie has had grudging respect from some which is a bit odd really, when Kenny came in we all thought we were doomed by the departure of Keegan and the fact he did as well as he did was a huge relief to all of us and an annoyance to everyone who said without Keegan we were nothing (similar to Stevie). The fact is we are blessed by our history I go back even further to Roger Hunt but the topic is about Stevie being the new Kenny and as someone said there will only ever be on Kenny but equally will never see the likes of Stevie again either.

He's the King of my era, no doubt.

Don't think i'll be alive to see a better player than Gerrard. What can't he do?
