Leaking Goals problem

So much has been said about our problems scoring goals this season.  Less attention has been paid to our difficulties in defence.

Since January, we've leaked 23 goals in 17 PL matches, keeping only 5 clean sheets in the process (home to Stoke, Spurs and Everton, and away to Wolves and Norwich).

No doubt the absence of Lucas has been a factor.  His combination with Raul Meireles in the second half of last season protected our back four, in which Glen Johnson played at left-back 12 months ago.

The two goals we gifted at Wembley on Saturday were examples of how fragile we've become.  Cardiff was another warning sign.

I hope the return of Lucas next season will make us much tighter again.  But I think it's an area that KK needs to address - City, Bolton and QPR have all scored three times against us on the road in 2012.

While Lucas' absence has been a factor, I don't think it can all be attributed to that.

Pepe has, by his own admission, been in poor form and we were without Agger for a while too who had one of those injuries that any player could pick up.

Pepe has been in poor form, plus we were without Johnson, Agger, and Lucas for a lot of that time.

Reina has been horrible and has not been the world class GK he is, add to that Agger's dip in form and Lucas' absence.
Spearing also is not good enough(both goals vs Chelsea).  Enrique is no more solid as he was at the start of the season

Amazingly, we have the 3rd best defence in the league (shared with Everton) for a season of this standard.

This suggests to me that leaking goals isn't the problem, although we've let in some really, really soft ones.

No need to say what the problem is as it's very obvious. (Just in case anyone doesn't get it, 47 goals in 37 games)
