I think the world cup has shown we might just need a legitimate DM.

I posted this elsewhere, but it fits here really.

Well we established once and for all last night that if you play Raheem on the right wing in a rigid 4-4-2, within two banks of four, nobody playing between the lines and without the fullbacks pushing on, he is only decent. In other news, if the centre halves don't split and allow Stevie to drop in whilst pushing the fullbacks on in order to make it very hard for the opposition to press the ball high up, Stevie will get pressed high up. Not only that, but we learnt something about Rickie Lambert last night too. If you launch it at him without any angle from fifty yards away when he has defenders front and back, he doesn't win every single thing in the air. Also, I couldn't help but notice that if you detail Jordan Henderson into a holding midfield role and tell him to stick rigidly to his position, he doesn't run around the pitch anywhere near as much as usual and you don't really notice him.

Roy Hodgson is a buffoon and we shouldn't read anything at all into any England players performances in this tournament

I'll take 4th right now with our current squad. We don't need numbers as such, we need quality.

I'll be very surprised if we challenge again next season unless additions are made. We were fresh by not competing in Europe and we didn't have a cup run. Our rivals last season were also very very poor which needs to be taken into consideration. Arsenal faded after about 30 games as usual, Spurs were shockingly bad and United were guided by a complete dick head. Chelsea also under performed but have since strengthened with Costa and Fabregas. Spurs, Chelsea and Utd will be a lot stronger next season, Im pretty certain about that.  So we need to be. We can't rely on unproven youngsters throwing them in at the deep end. They should be tested in the league cup.

The defence needs re-shaping and strengthening. It's got to be our priority.

Unless Reina comes back which I don't think he will then we need a new keeper straight away. Mignolet isn't good enough.

We need to replace Johnson. Always been a fan of his but think he's past his best now. Always been a question mark over his defending but he always offered something going forward. He doesn't do that any more. Poor.

Personally Im happy with Flanno/Enrique fighting it out for the left back position but I wouldn't sulk if we sign Moreno either.

Gut feeling says Agger will go. Sakho and Skrtel can fight it out for one of the CB positions but they cant play together. Toure is a spare - do not touch unless desperate type of player. But we need a top centre half. It's what we lacked last season. We need a big sami in there.

      So that's 3-4 players already.

We could do with a powerhouse in midfield, 1 or 2wide men and another top quality striker.

I know im not asking for much...

You're asking for the bare essentials for a successful campaign mate, get that in an envelope and post it in the direction of Boston.

This summer would you have faith and belief in the squad to repeat last seasons top 4 finish?

We have added Can and Lambert. Have returning loan players Reina Illori and Suso. Coates another who could return. Plus last season will have stood to several players like Flanno Coutinho and Raheem. More exciting prospects like Ibe and Rossiter waiting in the wings and Enrique back from injury. Sakho will have settled well in by now and there will be an air of confiedence and self belief in the squad having come so close last season.

Obviously we all want to see a couple of top class signings, but if it doesnt happen will it be a disaster? Potentail squad as things stand right now

      Goalkeepers: Mignolet Reina Jones
Defenders: Flanno Kelly Johnson Agger Sakho Skrtel Illori Coates Toure Enrique Robinson
Midfield: Can Gerrard Henderson Coutinho Allen Lucas Sterling Suso Teixera  Alberto Rossitter
Forwards: Borini Lambert Sturridge Aspas Suarez Ibe

Good enough to compete on the 2 main fronts? Some serious young talent there with a backbone of experience

Good question op and I'd have to say yes.
I'd even think we'll go one better and win the league and CL.
Couple of young lads from the reserves and a loanees  coming back.
We have nearly 200 Centre backs so, bring up a couple of lads for the winger roles or whatever.
I know my answer is a bit Naive sounding but in my head it's perfectly reasonable, I just happen to think the team we have already did great last season and I think the goalie and defenders will be more settled. Lets see Illori yea! Do we just spend money for these players to be at holiday camp, What's going on with Alberto.. Suso.
Not going to panic about transfers any more this season, it's just filling in the time we'd all be occupying with talking about LFC playing football.
So it's understandable that transfer speculation is going to be topic of the moment.

The main thing we've got going for us is that our manager is going from strength to strength. whether it's going to be with a big money signing just to have a name here or telling them their attitude doesn't seem right because they want all these extra goodie bags.

Players coming here should be fighting to come here with the style and philosophy that's in motion.

As was the case last summer, our number one transfer goal should be retaining the services of one Luis Alberto Suarez Diaz. Failing that, we need to secure as high a fee for him as possible.

So if we keep Suarez we maybe need 3 more quality players in addition to what we've already signed to challenge in the EPL and CL. If we sell Suarez we'd need a top-end centre forward as well, someone like Lewandowski. If we sell Suarez and don't strengthen then we may end up finishing 5th.
