Setting aside his ability and whether he is any good or not is anyone else not a bit curious as to what has happened and what he might blame the club for?

Strange situation unless I've missed something.

Yup. Gotta wonder about this story.

Clearly part of him negotiating a financial settlement...

His contract was up in the summer.  Hearing that he got a 500k pay off.  Nice work if you can get it!

Could post that in the I Despair of Football thread.

Nothing against Doni, he didn't pull a gun and demand the transfer fee or salary, just a reflection on the modern game.

      Pure madness.

Liverpool, farewell gifts: the story of a tragedy touched

      Photo: © www.imagephotoagency.it

Premier League LIVERPOOL GIFTS - The last day of the market has not only got shots of the market, but also the story of a tragedy touched, such as gifts , former goalkeeper of Rome, which he terminated the contract with Liverpool to return to Brazil and withdraw. As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport , the Brazilian goalkeeper was forced to hang up his boots for serious health problems: July 3, 2012 risked death of a heart attack during an examination by the medical staff of the Reds ; after 30 seconds of terror recovered, but the problems had already been highlighted by Rome, which had recorded an arrhythmia during the experience of the Brazilian in red and yellow. The problem has not prevented Doni being considered suitable for the athletic activities, but after the heart attack Muamba and the death of Morosini controls by English clubs have become more extensive and evidently something did not work, because gifts flew in Italy, in particular Monzino Hospital of Milan, to undergo a series of tests that gave a sad verdict situation under control, but athletic activities recommended. " regret the games and the atmosphere of the stadiums, but to live and be together with the family is more important. thank Liverpool did extremely well , "the comment and the greeting of Doni.

If that's true, it must have been a terrible time for him and his family.
Anyway, good luck to him, hope he finds a way to continue playing without damaging his health.
      Hope he remembers YNWA.

If that's true, then for the life of me, I can't believe why Liverpool wouldn't have announced it and showed some public compassion.

(Not to mention the help it could have given to all the cardiac campaigns not just in football but in other areas of public life over here).

      Very very perplexing.

It said  " the problem had been highlighted by Rome."

Then did they not disclose a material fact to us or did our medical team not spot it if it was a pre-existing  condition.

      Forget the money.
      Thats balance sheet bollocks anyway.

      Hope the guy stays OK

I agree, it is strange that it wasn't made known, but maybe he wanted to deal with it privately without the World and his wife knowing.
The decision would have been his, as medical details are private.
I think everyone deals with things like this in their own way, I just hope as a club we have given him all the help he needs.
Now it's out in the open I would assume the club will comment, if only to wish him all the best.
Now that's the bit that's odd, the statement by the club was short and to the point with no best wishes for the future, which if these reports are true seems harsh to say the least!

Our PR department were chasing ghosts at the time if memory serves me correctly...just another snafu in the media department for the club.

Stay healthy fella.  Like you guys, I am surprised the club didn't say something (although no doubt the PR dept - if one exists - may read this and then say something).
