Why did we let Steven Warnock go?
      Dec 19, 2008 09:04:20 pm
I have just been looking at some of the teams that people beleive liverpool should start with and Dossena keeps popping up and Aurelio when he is fit .
And I think somteimes the left back is the week link in a near perfect team ,but when thinking who would I buy to replace either I keep thinking of Warnock .
hes playing the football of his life and is possibly the best and most on form LB in the league at the moment .
Why or should we have let him go so early in his career??

      Absolutely not.

The guy's positioning may have improved, but it's still just not good enough.

What the hell are you talking about?

Evra and Clichy are light years ahead of Shorey and Warnock..!!

Oh, and also Ashley Cole and Wayne Bridge are better than those two.

      Jeez...

      Clichy?

Evra when he's not hitting groundsman?

The blindingly obvious seemed to pass him by.

      Shorey? WTF?!

Yea because the question was at this moment i went on the last few matches.... otherwise Evra and Clichy would have been selected obviously. But last few games they have been terrible, which lead me to not select them... or is that too confusing aswell ::)

He would have been first choice had we not sell him.

Warnock was a bit inconsistent against us. A couple of good tackles but a few errors and he shouldn't have got beaten by Yossi so easily for the second goal.

I don't think Warnock is a huge improvement on Aurelio or Insua apart from maybe Warnock is less injury prone that Aurelio

Steven Warnock is having a great season o far but I belive Rafa knew by looking at him that he may be a good left back but not good enough for us if he was that good fabio capello would start him for england.

Cant blame Rafa at letting him go, Riise wasnt doing too bad then and he was hiting that age where he had to get first team football if he was to achieve his goals. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but looking back, i doubt alot would have been this gutted to see him go.

Now though, he is an improvement, a significant one at that, on Dossena and Aurellio but i think Insua is just as good as him and give him one season (hopefully this season) and he'll be light years ahead of Stephen.

We let Warnock (and Traore) go and we got Aurelio as their replacement. Warnock has done well for him-self and was a good Premiership level full-back (and DM too) but I would still take Aurelio over Warnock.

Warnock was allowed to leave because he wanted to play every week where as we couldn't offer him that. Was a shame to see him go becausei think he is a very good player.

was actually thinking that yesterday, the scout that thought dossena would suit the premiership should be strung up, he is slow and weak and defensively to be honest he is an embarrasment, and the plus side was encouraged by insua today

In a recent article Warnock said that Rafa assured him he was in his plans and then didn't play him for three months.

      That's why he left.

I haven't seen anyone since do a better job at left back for Liverpool than he is doing at the moment for Blackburn.

      Bad move in my opinion.

Exactly. Why sell a decent hard working player and replace him with Dossena and Aurelio? I dont mind Aurelio to much to be honest but he hasnt done any better the Stevie did or has done

He went too soon. Would have been a massive player for us now had he stayed.

He left because he was behind JAR and Aurelio at the time also because he is not a top 4 left back either.

the lad had it all going for him at Anfield his potential was plain to see,he had got the nod off Rafa but I think Warnocks gameplan was more advanced than the managers and there would be only one decision considered - we all know whose that would be! its a crying shame but countless lads have gone through the same process and reaped the benefits later.
