Gerrard tried to get Henry to Liverpool

Steven Gerrard has revealed that he tried to convince Thierry Henry to join him at Liverpool during the time that it became increasingly obvious that he was set to leave the Emirates Stadium.

The Reds skipper claims a special bond with Henry due to a mutual respect that developed as a result all the times that they’ve played against each other in the league and internationally, but that was not enough to convince the French superstar to opt for Barcelona. 

"I sent him a few text messages seeing if he fancied it," said Gerrard. 

"I would have loved to have seen him in a Liverpool shirt, just like the supporters would have.

"But he wanted to play in Spain and for Barcelona, so you had to respect that decision.

"However he's got a lot of respect for Liverpool. He speaks really well about us."

In the interview with Liverpool’s official website, Gerrard also shed light on how he and Henry got to be friends.

"Just through the respect from playing against each other,” he explained.

"One day we swapped numbers and ever since we've been sending each other text messages, had phone calls, we support each other and stuff.

"It is really flattering when a player at that level comes out and gives you a bit of praise.

"He is just settling in at Barcelona now and I'm sure he'll prove again he's one of the best players in the world."

Nice try SG.  Good to see somebody at Anfield is focussing on bringing in the big names.

I will always admire the way Henry plays, and maybe SG should convince Ronaldinho next?

He said all this in his interview with Clare Rourke on LFC TV, Saturday just gone. Did anyone watch it? Another thing he said was that it would be interesting to work with Carragher as management of Liverpool some day - with Carragher being the manager because Gerrard reckons he knows much more about football than him. Imagine that eh!

Mascherano didn't play well at West Ham did he?

Well, Ronaldinho is world class too, and he proved It, It must be good if LiverpooFC have such a world class player, but I wonder if Ronaldinho can play well at Liverpool, somehow I feel that his style won't match LiverpoolFC's style, LiverpoolFC has a simple style, really simple but efficace, that's why Torres, a foward with no 'beautifull technic' like Christano Ronaldo (man! I hate him!) can play so well in the team, in just his first season.
Gerrard must have thought a lot before he convince someone to join the team, he's a captain that know what the team need and he's a midfield that know what kind of player he can cooperate well (like Torres and Mascherano).

I was in the Nou Camp for Thierry Henry's first game for Barca, he was pretty good, won a penalty and hit the post in the second half. It would have been great to have him here.

no mascherano didn't do well at Barcelona but in a way thats totally different because Ronaldinho used to seem untouchable but now hes gradually getting worse and his performances aren't getting any better. Mascherano wasn't very well known at Corinthians and didn't have a world class reputation, then went to west ham which turned out to be a mistake but Rafa  signed him and turned him into a world class player. Rafa wouldn't be able to turn Ronnie into an untouchable player again because he has already peaked

sorry but i do not rate him any more, hes nothing like the player he was a few years ago and his style of play wouldnt  suit us or the prem. 

Henry is awesome and Stevie did make a good decision of convincing him to join LFC.He might join LFc one day,who knows?

It might be great seeing him pair up with Torres.

First of all, he didnt convince him to join otherwise he would be in a Pool shirt right now.

Second, have you any idea how old Thierry is? Barca will be his last club unless he somehow gets booted out.
