      MP3 problems- advice please
      Mar 26, 2009 11:16:45 pm
Guys, i need someone who knows their stuff when it comes to downloading music and converting files and all that kind of stuff. I have had the same MP3 player for about 2 years now (Sony Walkman) and it has never caused me any problems, although i know a lot of people that have had a lot of problems. Just the other day, however, my one started to freeze on me, much to my frustration. I reset it and it worked fine. Then it froze again and i repeated what i did the first time. Unfortunately, it keeps freezing so i think its coming to the end of its days. Anyway, i wanted to make sure that i have all the tracks that are on my current MP3 player so i can convert them on the new one, if and when the current one breaks down for good. However, Just when i thought that i had it all sussed out, (converting the music to My Documents), up appeared a problem. I have about 850 songs on my MP3 player but only around 300 saved in My Documents. So i then entered my MP3 software and connected to my device and selected all the songs on the MP3. I then right clicked and clicked on "Import to My Library". Then i understood the problem. For just over a year now, i have been downloading music from Limewire. When i went to Import the Music to My Library, a message appeared saying that it only imported the tracks that i had not deleted from My Library in the past. Everytime that i downloaded a track from Limewire, i deleted it from My Library and the Computer and so this means that the downloaded tracks from Limewire will not import. Would anyone be able to give me some advice on how to import every single track so that when i do need to get a new MP3 player, i will be able to have the exact same tracks on it? Any advice would be helpful. Cheers, Semple p.s i am despearte for help  :'(

Can't you just plug it in, go to 'my computer' and then double click on your mp3 player to see all the files on it. Then drag them into a new folder on your desktop?

Sorry, I meant to mention that in my original post. For some reason, the tracks downloaded from Limewire are not showing their. I did try that but again, not all the tracks converted. Thanks for the help tho.

Interesting One. I was going to suggest what redkenny said, I presume your MP3 player shows up on your "My Computer". Could you copy the MP3 folder/file where the tracks are stored, hopefully the hidden files will be transferred.

Then you could have a look at the folder properties, try and show any hidden files, ie, look at the folder properties and see if it shows any hidden files. How many files the folder holds and compare to the visible ones, and the amount stored on your MP3 player.

If you can copy the MP3 folder then when you get the new one could you "Select all", Copy and then paste on to the new MP3 player.

      Hope this makes sense.

      Good Luck.

It could also be a "Proprietary" file in the Limewire software. Much Like Itunes.. If you have any Limewire software downloaded to your PC. Remove it,reboot your PC and then use the Windows Media Player to copy the files over.

The problem with Ipods is you have to use ITUNES... :f_steam:You should try the Zune..Its microsoft but if you have a PC and not Mac, It is pretty user friendly.  You can use MP3 and WMA files. Which mostly all download sites are using. I've heard good things about the CL Zen too. So Its really a choice between looks and functions.
