20 million wasted on Gareth Barry or trust a talented youngster with the potentional to be even better than Barry. I know I'd be putting Jay in the side.

      Spot on that.

There are youngsters who probably seem more of a risk than another, but everyone seems to see the potential in Jay to be a future professional at the highest level.

He has the bad luck of needing to break into our CM position, where we have had the strongest quality and depth for years in the EPL, and it doesn't look like changing soon. Lucas was stating a while back that he was thinking of leaving the club, and if he did, Spearing could probably take the "third choice" spot instead of him. If not, hanging around to be fourth choice, behind Alonso, Masch and Lucas (providing Gerrard remains in the second striker role), wouldn't be in his interests.

It is vital that we have Scousers in the team and the squad. Jay is 100% committed to the cause and I am sure believes he could do as good a job as certain squad players. Nobody knows  if he will be good enough. We all know he has the desire, hunger and hopefully the dedication. It would appear so to me. Keep working lad and good luck. F*ck the Bentley, frying pan watch and orange girlfriend until you have made it lad. You will make it and become a hero to your own people. (and us across the river.)

Very promising remarks from the lad. Let's hope he sticks to his task and works hard enough to break into the 1st team.

But one can always appreciate when a player speaks like that, he shows he has his goal set. And is keen on fulfilling it. Great stuff!

Its catch 22 for me. He needs experience to improve but cant get in the 1st team. Its unlikely that given the run in we are now in he will get another chance this season. Who would you drop for him to play?. I feel for the Lad as I dont see him getting enough games to prove himself worthy of a place. Its the same with all the Academy and reserve team how do they break in to the first team and displace the likes of Jamie or Stevie or even Fernando. Insua looked to have go this place but since leaving to play for his country hasnt figured and now Aurelio and Dossena are playing well he may well have blown his opportunity. But who knows Rafa may well pick him on Saturday.

Every young player wants to be like Stevie.Practice and determination will get you there. Why not send Spearing on a season long loan to a club that is prepared to play him in every game,it could only make him better.

I think that Spearing will soon be doing what Stevie does.....I know he can do it ....even Darby can do what Carra is doing too ! Young and scouse I know they can do it ! It just takes time and patience ...don't worry Jay  ... your chance will come soon !

Spearing, like Stevie, has one thing that is really in his favour. He is versitile. He is at his best in the middle of the park, but he can play centre half or right back if needed. Plus he can the holding or advancing role from midfield. So there's a lot of options open to him and Benitez to find him a place.

I don't think we'll see him much this season, maybe a few more outings in the Champions League when the tie is won. But in the league, it's more realisic to assume he won't be featuring too much. But providing he's fit, then Jay will get a few more outings in next season's pre-season games to see how he does. Hopefully he'll be given an outing in the Charity Shield as well (if we're there) because it's not exactly the most important game of the season so it's a chance to see players in action. Next season will be the confirmation of whether Spearing features in the long run of things at Anfield or not.

Just heard on Radio Merseyside that Jay Spearing has been offered a new 3 year contract and that is good news. They also mentioned the other young lad Darby has been offered a 3 year contract.

I can see Spearing being the next Steven Gerrard without a doubt, maybe not as good (because that would be immensely hard) but i can see him being a very important player for us in years to come. Maybe he should be given a start when we play west brom?
