Our weaknesses turning into strenghths or vice-versa
      Sep 13, 2011 04:47:42 pm
      Hi,
I've never introduced myself although I've been on this forum for some months. I'm 16 years old and I'm a Mauritian. I've been supporting since childhood(due to my father) but I've followed LFC on a regular basis since 6yrs.

Last season was definitively a turning point in the history of the club: new owners, the return of the King, new players and players leaving etc.

During this transfer window I've been due to the same reasons overwhelmed and underwhelmed: Adam, Henderson and add Carroll.
Henderson: He was great during the first half of the league for Sunderland. He has pace, skills, a good delivery, can play at RM and CM etc and potential.  He lacks confidence at time and often makes the bad choice. However at Sunderland he was a key player since he had importance and was often a catalyst. He has much potential and can be a hit even now. He becomes a weakness when the team is not in good shape and he loses his composure and makes bad decisions since he has a lack of confidence.

Adam: I did not want him since it meant aquilani or Mereiles would leave (and for me Aqua is world class and Mereiles is a great CM to have). However during pre-season he convinced me with his awesome passes. He is a better tackler than Mereiles; Aquilani is more complete.  He has everything to become THE ONE who can replace Alonso. However too often he makes the wrong choice and over-hit a pass and loses the ball. He is also quite slow at times due to his physique. He has to impose himself as the passer of the team and show to the teammates that he has the skills to make the mythic LFC play. Weakness sometimes.

Carroll: I'll support him till the end. Seriously I like him. He is a terrific player with his head, he's powerful, has a great left foot and is decent with his feet. He's an atypical British striker. He can easily become the best scorer of the league this season or next year BUT his not Suarez; he won't create his opportunities. However if you FIND him in the box with a decent cross, he'll score :P. Again, he's a terrific scorer but don't expect him to create.  The weakness is not totally from him. It's also due to the fact that the teammates hoof it on his head and expect that he controls these silly balls! Or whenever it's possible, cross in the box praying that the ball falls onto Carroll's head who is the only player in the box(easy for players to defend). (it's my opinion) The teammates should learn to play WITH Carroll and play FOR him since he definitively has the ability to score. At the moment: Weakness. When he's on the field our game is too obvious.

When Gerrard returns I expect(based on Comolli's interview) him to play behind the main striker-Carroll and become the free electron which he was in 2008-2009. The game won't be focused on Carroll and Suarez will have the freedom to dribble on a wing and create goals for himself and others.

Carroll is a big war machine but if there aren't soldiers around the machine the machine can easily be neutralized.
Adam and Henderson can become great players if they learn to keep the head cool.

In fact, today's weaknesses can become strengths.

      Sorry for bad English.

Good post mate. I agree with a lot of it, maybe not the Aquilani being world class bit, but a lot of it. I think we have brought in good players that will along with the players already here become the foundation stone of the "new" Liverpool.

I think people are worrying a little too much about the players that have left, and not supporting the players that are here as much as they should. Torres, Aquilani, Meireles, Alonso etc can't help us now, won't gain us any points and unless they score an own goal, won't get us any goals. The players who remain will!

I believe Commoli and Kenny had a plan, brought in the right players to bring that plan to fruition, and over the season we will begin to see that plan succeed. Of course there will be hiccups and upsets along the way, but I think we are a much stronger team than we were last season and over the course of the season this will become more apparent.

" today's weaknesses can become strengths." I like that mate, but I would prefer...... yesterday's weaknesses are today and tomorrows strengths!
