I could never be but could have been...
      Jun 14, 2009 09:38:25 pm
As a kid, whilst playing for my school team or with friends, I like all of you dreamt of one day being good enough to play for the beloved Mighty Reds.

My hero's were; Ian Rush, Johnny Barnes, Kenny Dalglish and Peter Beardsley. BUT I could never even imagine being them....I had more chance of creating a harem of all the playmates for my indugence than becoming a god of the kop.

So, I always imagined that I could one day be like....Ronnie Whelen or Jamie Redknapp.

Both always seemed to play the game at their pace. They could pass the ball around with such understated beauty and would be a total team player who was good at most things, considered indispensable, never attracted too much attention(yeah...the spice boy and louise thing kind of changed people's view of Jamie) and always popped up with a crucial goal or pass.

To be Rush was beyond my dreams even when kicking about with friends. I could never pretend to be him

So, if everything had worked out for you who could you have been?

I used to pretend to be Dalglish for obvious reasons. Even though he was slightly better than me, I still pretended to be him.  ;)

As for the notion of this topic though, I'd have probably been a right footed Riise - with a slightly better attitude leading up to my final LFC days.  ;) Because obviously I wouldn't have wanted to play for any club other than LFC. When I played football I was defensively minded but I'd run up and down the pitch all day, loved taking players on and I could hammer some goals in and put a good cross in.

I could never have been Rush.

I reckon I'd probably be someone really sh*t. Someone who was out of breath from just thinking about running. Someone who had a ciggie at half time instead of an orange.

Nah, I would be an ace left winger! ;)

I could never be Fowler or Owen, was never any good at finishing.Put me at the other end of the pitch cause I'll do a job in goal for you,so I reckon I could be Brucie or a modern day Reina.

I'd have been Lawrenson - doing the donkey work while the bloke next to me with the silky skills took all the plaudits.

I reckon I have the same style of play as Torres to be honest, good finisher, good in the air and pacy, so I'll go for Nando.

as a kid i was always Steve mcmanaman, without fail, he was my hero as a kid, i remember once i wrote to liverpool football club as a kid, and they gave me what was probably the standard "kids pack", but it contained a sheet of paper containing all the signatures of the team at the time, i thought it was the greatest thing on earth, having folwer, macca, redknapp on my wall, it was photocopied obviously, but i loved it.
