Building Quotes, Am I getting Ripped off?
      Jun 22, 2009 05:35:32 pm
So, we all get quotes now and again, and to be honest I have not got a clue how much thing costs.

I have been quoted £460 for a concrete shed base. 6'X8'

      This entails
      Dig Out Footing
Concrete footing ready for brick work
Construct 4" brick work to similar floor height of existing garage
Concrete slab level to brick work.

      So I'm I getting Ripped off :confused-smiley-013:

Sounds pretty steep to me that RedPuppy, I'd get a few more quotes if I was you.

Seems a bit steep to me.

Are they building the concrete base on a river? ;)

      Maybe it's the brick work?

Red puppy send me the size in metres and the height of the brickwork and i will tell you how many bricks are in it and how much it should cost roughly ,you didnt say who is footing the bill for the materials.

If its labour, materials and disposal of arisings, I would think its not a bad price as the job would take more than a day to complete waiting for brickwork to set etc.

Is the base for a wooden shed? if it is I wouldn't bother with foundations and brick work just use a timber shutter and a 150mm thick concrete slab, as long as the slab is on reasonable ground it will be fine as there is no weight in the shed,

You could DIY it, you'd need about 1500kg of ballast and a 15 bags of cement mix it up about 4 or 5 to 1 and a bit of timber for the shutter, materials would set you back about a £100.

Or stick down 4 paving slads for the shed corners to sit on one in the middle make sure the are level and job done.

      Good advice in here.

Venison, I want to build a 700 foot brick wall all around goodison so I don't have to see it out the corner of my eye when I drive past there. Fancy a foreigner?  ;)

You cant make a silk purse out of a pigs ear, bricks are to good for Goodison mate, if we use scabby old concrete blocks it will be far quicker.

Good point boss! What if we just dig a big latrine all the way around it? Save on scabby old concrete blocks then - I could always just look the other way when I drive past I suppose.
