Emiliano Insua or Fabio Aurelio?

I still just feel Insua is a little bit too short for a left back. Maybe left wing suit him more. Aurelio should be first choice. But we should still give Insua some play time to grow him. Not like last 20min sub. But start games.

roberto carlos sounds familiar? i dont think hes a bit too short for a full back. cannavaro would arguably be too short for a CD, same for puyol, so height is not a really big matter when talking about football IMHO.

then again i think aurelio is the best LB we have right now. he's passing and crossing is way more precise than insua's, i can clearly remember a number of goals starting with an aurelio cross or long pass. too bad he's got no pace but he's pretty solid defending.

on the other hand i'm gonna go a little against most of the people on this thread but as much as i rate insua i cant see him as a future crack. i could be utterly wrong but i dont see this special thing about him. no powerful shot, no tricky dribbling, not that much pace, not an amazing crosser. i'm not saying he cant shoot or cross etc, but i dont see anything outstanding about him in any of his skills, what i see is mostly consistency generally speaking. maybe i'm being a little too harsh on him because i know he's only 20, but still, and i'm not trying to be ironic, i'd like someone to tell me what do they found so cracking about him. IMHO he's a good player, dont think im rating him next to doss at all, but im not that excited about his future.

I think Aurelio offers more going forward, and his free kicks are better than Stevies but I want to see Insua play

I think a fully fit Aurelio should start ahead of Insua. But the fact that Insua is only 20 and he's already pushing to be Liverpools first choice left back just shows what a talent he is.

Fabio Aurelio for me.

Aurelio at the moment but only because he has more experience and has played under pressure.

Insua is still very young and progressing well and wont be long before it's him thats the better of the two.

Aurelio definately, I'm a big fan of Jim's but people forget just how good Aurelio was playing at the back end of last season.

Insua, much more consistent.

Aurelio takes five weeks to find form, has one good game then gets injured.

Have to disagree on this one. I think Aurelio has been a very decent performer when he has been in the side and he would be my pick ahead of Insua who i also think is a decent player for us.

I would go with Aurelio on this one and it's just for the fact that he has more experience than Insua, but on potential, Insua has to be one of the best up & coming around.

its got to be Aurelio at the moment for me, at the minute we need as much experience as possible at the back. Insua will get his games though  and is a nailed on certainty for the near future. It will do him good to get several games in a row under his belt as hes still learning his trade in England. But as i said we need the familiarity at the back while we get our defence back on track. And its not that Insua is at fault, i just personally prefer Aurelio at the moment.

Right now ,gotta go with Aurelio ,but its nice to know we have a future with Insua. LB is one position we dont have to worry about for years to come.
Now if we could just get another winger...

I think the arguement can go both ways and as illustrated in this thread the votes are quite evenly split.  The most important thing is that Insua is only 20 and should be very close to the first team and shouldn't really be kept away from the first teams for long spells as he is developing into a real gem.  World Class full backs come a heavy premium like Johnson. 

I'd have to go with a fully fit Aurelio which means Insua will get at least 15 games a season  , I personally feel Aurelio offers just that bit more than Insua but taking nothing away from Insua he's a more than able deputy and he will only get better as he progresses.. but at this moment its Aurelio he's got the experience and is a better crosser of the ball and is defensively aware as well as good at getting forward.

Aurelio is the better defender and crosser of the ball.

Insua is full of running, but his final ball is often pretty poor.

Insua will blossom into a cracking left back, but he's not there yet, imo.

personally i think this is a toss up. insua has been playing v well. i also think that fabio played his best football last season. i think the 2 of them are cracking left backs. i reali dont mind who is on the teamsheet for the left back slot, as long as dossena is nowhere near it.

Fabio for me because his experience is vital, his set piece technical ability has been missing this season... Its great to have Insua waiting in the wings.... Insua has alot of time, more than Aurelio and im sure he will be the established Liverpool left back for the coming years...

We have been poor at the back, not blaiming our wing backs but sometimes we need experience there... and i think tmrw we will start with Insua @ LB but Aurelio on the bench who may get 15/20 mins defending on the game...

At the moment, and when he is fit and firing, i still feel Aurelio is the right choice. He has maturity now i feel on the field, and he really seemed to improve last season. His set pieces are a vital weapon to, good to have another option apart from Gerrard to fire in the free kicks.
Insua's time is coming. He is really coming ahead in leaps and bounds, and is going to be one hell of a left back IMO. He is still showing signs of rawness, which is why i went with Aurelio. But do this topic in a years time and it could be different. He keeps developing miss-hap free we may see a very fine LB this time next year, not that he isn't already.

Rafa loves Aurelio, so even if he doesn't start tomorrow he will be back in soon. And I would agree that it should be the case. If he'd not been injured he'd have been there all season anyway
