I've always said Mascherano, someone who peope don't seem keen on wearin the number 7. He may not be our traditional number 7, but he's a world class player and you know he's worthy of it. I like the idea of Babel wearin number 7, but I'd still give it to Masch. I just think he'd rekindle the love affair for number 7.
Those fortunate enough to see the likes of Callaghan, Keegan, Dalglish and Beardsley wear the number 7 have an infinity with it, even those like me who grew up in the 90s got to see McManaman wear number 7 so we have that love affair with the number as well, even if in recent years Macca has turned out to be a right tw*t, he was a great player and still the best winger we've had post 1990. But for the modern generation of 10 year olds and younger they only have Smicer and Kewell to remember as the number 7 so probably feel why do we love this number so much, unless they are well educated on the legends of old. That's why I'd give it to Mascherano because he optimises Liverpool Football Club so well. 100% committed, never gives up, plays football in the simple way, heart of a lion and is extremely talented. He'd show this generation why we love the number 7 shirt so much.
(this isn't havin a go at Babel, but for me Masch is a better choice)
