What I'm wondering though -  why did they pay however much for him and then they just bring him on every game with like 15 minutes to go? He's looked a bit of a spark when he's come on too, surely a start will be granted to him soon?

I think McLeish seems too afraid of using players with no EPL experience.

In the season they got relegated, they had Mauro Zárate on loan who is an AMAZING player (and is showing that in Italy), but Alex would only use him in the last minutes of the matches, coming from the bench. He preferred to keep Forssell (who is average at best) on the starting XI even with Zárate always having a big impact. If Im not mistaken, Mauro only started a few games when McFadden was out injured... waste of talent, that was.

Benitez just came back from injury though didn't he? And he didnt get a pre-season in either.
