US owners' £1.2m claims from Liverpool FC accounts
Jun 9 2008 By David Prentice

LIVERPOOL’S American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett have incurred £1.2m in personal claims in their first seven months of ownership at Anfield.

The Kop Holdings Ltd figures, which also show a £33m loss on the year ending July 31, 2007, include transaction, travel and personal claims.

The accounts, the first set released by Kop Holdings, show that from December 2006 to July 31 2007, £823,000 was incurred by George Gillett for “transaction related expenses” – understood to be claims built up during the acquisition of the club – and a further £375,000 for “reimbursable travel, legal, personnel and other expenses.”

As at July 31, 2007 £100,000 of these amounts were listed as unpaid.

During the same period the company incurred £133,000 for transaction related expenses on Tom Hicks’s behalf and £198,000 for reimbursable travel, legal and other expenses.

£244,000 of these amounts were listed as unpaid at July 31, 2007.

The accounts also show that during the January refinancing of the club, an inter-company loan of £64m was made, seemingly to service the interest repayments incurred.

The ownership of the club is a complicated structure split into five elements – with Kop Investment LLC being the parent company supporting four subsidiaries, ending with Liverpool Football Club.

Kop Holdings, the company two levels above LFC, lent the club £64m over three years for the apparent purpose of servicing the interest repayments of the refinance, believed to be around £30m each year.

The outlook for the financial future at Anfield is not likely to improve, piling even more pressure on Hicks and Gillett.

The club’s £350m loans may also have to be refinanced as early as January, meaning another intensive search for backers by Hicks and Gillett may need to begin again almost as soon as the season kicks off.

With no sign of the worldwide credit crunch easing, this could be a difficult quest for the club.

The accounts also reveal that the owners wrote off £10.3m when they scrapped the club’s design for a new stadium after their takeover in February 200, and the likelihood of work beginning any time soon on the new stadium is remote.

Hicks and Gillett remain at loggerheads with each other, further complicating the picture and leaving Anfield’s financial future clouded with uncertainty.

This just gets better and better.

We're paying for their F***ing travel as well now.  £30 million a year on interest payments. £10 million wasted on the first stadium plans.

What a complete F***ing waste of money.  So much for 'competing with the best in the world'.

Must disagree JD it does not get better and better it gets worse  and worse (erer ), the BAST *RDS should not be allowed to get away with it. The great train robbers had nothing on these 2,I suppose Moores and Parry must feel quite proud of themselves when they read these accounts.

Come January they have to pay back the loan installment that they put on the club.

Hicks sell up and leave us be and now we are in a recession you will never be able to suck us dry and syphon off the profits you were hoping to do to feed your American assets.GO HOME...

There are plans by uefa to limit the amount of debt a club can operate with. It is a ploy to stop prem clubs attracting all the top players with shed loads of dosh when the clubs can't really aford it. This will bring the prem into line with other european leagues. I will also mean Gillett and Hicks will have to sell because they can't aford to pay off the debt themselves. Weather or not this is to be implimented in the short term i'm not sure. It does however imply that the scum and the chavs will be in the same boat as us. Level playing field then. But if DIC buy L.F.C then the club won't be in debt as they have the ready finances, so the boot will be on the other foot so to speak, In our favour. Can't bloody wait. Lobby Platini to get it sorted soon.

That rule is being mentioned to simply stop England dominating European football again. Last four Champions League finals has had five English sides in (us being the only one to make it twice) The semi finals of the last four have all been glittered with English clubs. UEFA have had it in for England for as long as I can remember so this rule isn't to help any English club but to hinder them instead.

I agree with you on the above, anything Platini does is certainly not for the benefit of English Clubs. Hopefully the English F.A. are awake to his agenda which seems to be to bring English football to its knees thus making him the head supremo.(  I could be persuaded to back him if it helped to get rid of Hicks,Gillett ,Moores and Parry. )
