Ireland (North & South) was one nation, when he played, governed by the IFA. After partition the IFA was still the governing body and the Irish Free State (Eire) did not have a football team. The IFA was Northern Ireland.

In 1921 the Football Association of the Irish Free State (FAIFS) was founded - In 1923 FIFA recognised that body - In 1926 they played their first fixture against against Italy in Turin.

Eire (or the Irish Free State) became The Republic of Ireland on On Easter Monday, April 18, 1949.

Elisha won the last of his 31 caps for Ireland (Northern Ireland) on 11-03-1936 v Wales - 13 years before the Republic of Ireland existed. So yes, he played for Ireland when the country was one and under one association but he never played for the "Republic".

Only a technical thing, i suppose, and just me being a pedant - no harm done. One of my uncles played with and under Elisha for Belfast Celtic and won a few medals along the way. A top bloke by all accounts and one of Liverpool's greatest without doubt.

Fair enough mate, just went on what I read somewhere.

You sure the link in the first post doesn't work, Brian?

Still working for me, just takes a little while to load the page.
