Only 11,000 tickets given to LFC 'true' fans
      May 21, 2007 01:45:15 pm
Disgusting... that proviso that the shareholders got when they sold their shares to Gillett and Hicks to receive a lifetime priority on tickets is a joke.

The vast majority already made a financial gain on behalf of the club - they did get £5,000 for each share.

Only 11,000 Athens tickets went to Liverpool fans

Of Liverpool’s allocation of 17,095 tickets for the final in Athens, only around 11,000 tickets went to fans.

Around 6,000 tickets were eaten up by corporate season ticket holders, players, former players and the largest chunk by ex-shareholders of the club.  Rick Parry revealed the figures today - and our feeling, as is the feeling amongst the vast majority of our members on the forums is that this is nothing short of a disgrace.

Of the remaining 11,000 - around 3,300 tickets were guaranteed for the reds who had attended at least 7 Champions League ties (which would include at least one away game) and the remaining 7,700 went in to the ‘magical’ ballot. The ballot were, seemingly, if you  knew people in the ticket office you (allegedly) stood a very good chance of getting a ticket.

So what do you think. Is it right that the likes of ex-shareholders - who have arguably already been sufficiently financially compensated and actually have no stake in our club at all - should have tickets ahead of fans who brave all weathers, phone lines and ticket queues?

We would argue that the touting fiasco has been caused explicitly by these ‘wealthier’ fans - many of who never had any intention of travelling to Athens but instead ripped off a fellow Liverpool fan and made a few quid.

Not good enough - New rules from next season please Gillett and Hicks - and as far as we’re concerned the only thing that should qualify you for tickets is your dedication to the club - not the size of your wallet.

Just a quick point on 'the ballot'. There were 7,700 tickets available and around 27,000 people were eligible.

I'm sorry - but that makes it 1 in 4.  I have heard of groups of around 20 people who didn't get a single ticket between them.  There must be a lot of people keeping quiet who got 'all their tickets' because I think it was way more than 75% of people who were disappointed.

      Absolute disgrace.  >:(

This whole "system" badly needs sorting out and the men at the top need to get their priorities right. Otherwise there could be real problems in the future. We won't stand to be ripped off.  >:(

Well peed off after reading that JD, what gives the ex-shareholders any rights at all, they gave that up when they sold themselves out for a quick buck. No shares = no tickets !!  >:(

I have watched Liverpool home and away for years, I have never felt that they have ever looked after the true supporters. I have felt let down alot by the club, but this time they really out done themselves. I have been lucky enough to watch us win every trophy the game has got to offer but I have only ever qualified for 1 ticket for a cup final from the club in my 24 years of watching Liverpool. I have been foolish in thinking this would be different now with the introduction of a loyalty scheme. I will now do what everyone else does and I will play the system because I will never trust Liverpool to look after true supporters again.

It's disgusting, I agree with smigger, no shares no tickets.
I don't mind players families getting like their WAG then parents and siblings and that.
I think more should go to the club aswell, not just 17,095!

The players it seems get twenty-four tickets each! Add that to the boards allocation and staff members who may be entitled to a ticket and you must be looking at close to a thousand tickets evaporating before the fans get a look in.
I don't begrudge players and some staff getting tickets but do they need to get such a large amount each? No of course they don't but as Crazy horse says over the years the club has never been a shining light when it comes to how to give fans the best chance of seeing their team, instead they are more concerned with shareholders and corporate season ticket holders and now with new owners who are clearly not at the club for the love of the game things are not about to change in the near future. I say near future as something tells me our new owners will change their strategy of how to move the club forward financially as they have already admitted they have underestimated the unique impact Liverpool fans have on the club, and they realise that the way to make us the biggest “franchise” in the world is to have the fans on board as well as the money men and corporate sponsors.
Any change in ticketing allocations would be for the best and whilst I agree in principal that loyalty points are a good idea I think some sort of benefit should be given to fans who go to all matches not just six or seven champions league games.
Rick Parry seems to think its okay to buy out a shareholders stake in the club and then continue to reward them with the benefits they got when they had shares, these are people who have already been well rewarded at a buy out price of £5,000 a share, now compare these people with the ordinary fans and ask yourself who has put more into the club a shareholder or a long term season ticket holder? I for one have had a season ticket for close on thirty years and there are many more like me who have forked out the ever increasing price hike every season without question or argument because at the end of the day the club know and the season ticket holders know that if we don't renew there are 60,000 people on a waiting list who will bite their hand off for one, we are expendable to the current regime and I just hope the new owners who are seeing for the first time all the passion and fanaticism we have for the club and also seem to be a little bit awe struck with it all decide to reward the ground troops in the future and not the generals who never see any action.

just a quick word on the ticket allocation out here, appartenly 43,000 are coming out with the 11,000 only having tickets.
That make's only 1 in 4 travelling having a ticket. - sorry but that is sh*t.
I've been here for 36 hours now and not seen a single tout / ticket for sale.
I went to the ground yesterday, couldn't get too close due to security, but if I went on Sunday they let people in and walk round.
I was talking to lads who went on the pitch and even round the dressing rooms.

It is shocking how this was handled, but i think it's total bollocks that for any final, that so many tickets get taken up by suits and not genuine fans, it's a total disgrace and needs to be addressed.

Firstly I think the max amount of tickets to corporate fans should be 2000. They can auction for them, they seem to have loads of cash available unlike the true fans having to shell out hundreds to the touts who get thier tickets from the unwanted corporate issues. When will the managment ever learn. Secondly, Will any of this forum ever be seen by anyone who can make serious changes? I hope so, another pissed off fan.
