The Liverpool defender yesterday joined forces with Everton's Leighton Baines to launch an attempt to stage the longest ever game of 5-a-side football.
Both players will manage respective Liverpool and Everton supporter teams in a game scheduled to run for more than thirty hours when it kicks off at 7am on Saturday March 27.
Carragher's 23 Foundation, The Everton Foundation and Radio City's Cash For Kids are set to benefit from the event.
The record currently stands at 27 hours and 15 minutes and Carragher is confident the competitive nature of a Merseyside derby clash will ensure a new world record heads for Liverpool.
"We want to raise as much money as possible for the causes, that's the most important thing," said Carragher.
"If we get the world record, I think it will be brilliant for the city. To get both Everton and Liverpool involved will be great and it will bring the city together.
"The banter has already started between Leighton and myself. We are proud Scousers who are delighted to be involved - but obviously we want to win.
"I'm not sure what our fixtures are like when the game is on but if possible I'll be involved in some way. It's going to be an exciting occasion."
The idea was the brainchild of two Liverpool fans, Shaun Moran and Michael McMillan, both of whom were inspired after a viewing of the Milk Cup final between Reds and Blues in 1984.
Michael, 26, said: "We thought it would be a great idea to recreate that spirit. The players did a lap of honour at the end and it was great to see such a unity between the players. We thought with it being 25 years since that game that it would be great to do something and that's where this idea came from."
Shaun, 27, added: "It will be great to get the chance to represent your club and to be playing for Carragher. It may be a 'friendly' game but it's a Merseyside derby and we are going to want to win. We definitely won't want to let our manager down."
Each squad will consist of eight players, and fans wanting to get into the teams must attend a fitness "boot camp" and a weekly fitness assessment.
Training sessions start at St Mary's College sports centre, in Crosby, on January 17, 24 and 31 at 10am.
