      Italians eye Reds starlet

Skysports.com understands Liverpool starlet Damien Plessis could be set for a move away from Anfield before the close of the transfer window.

A mystery Italian club are thought to be keen on signing the highly-rated 21-year-old.

The French midfielder has found himself well down the pecking order this season, making just one appearance in the Carling Cup against Arsenal.

Plessis joined Liverpool in 2007 from Lyon and he made his debut for the first team in April 2008.

However, the French Under 21 international has struggled to make an impact and has found himself restricted to a role in the reserves.

His Italian suitors are understood to have watched him in action for the reserves in midweek against Manchester City and they are hoping to strike a deal for his services.

If we get 1m for him I'd be happy.

It's a shame because he was excellent against Arsenal at the Emirates last year and has showed great potential.

But he is 21 now and I suspect that if Rafa thought highly of him he would be making the squads more regularly than he is now.

Sad, becuase we really need to see some of this young talent coming through now not least becuase we have spent a lot of money on it in recent years.
No doubt in about 5 years time he will be playing in the French national team and playing regularly for Milan!

Rather loan him out. He needs to play to get back that potential he showed glimpses of. We sell him now for sweet f a and then look to buy a similar player for millions down the line. Would be disappointed to see another young talent leave. Look at Hammill and Anderson for example

To be honest I'd flog him with immediate effect, with no qualms what so ever, IMO he will never cut the mustard here as he's too lazy in his play.

I remember a couple of years ago I saw him for the first time when I went to the Northwich Victoria ground to watch Liverpool Reserves v United Reserves.

I was really impressed. He was probably the stand-out player on the pitch.

Further impressed the next few times I saw him - and particularly when he was asked to stand in against Arsenal at The Emirates.

Since then I've realised he hasn't really got a lot to his play. It's just simple pass ... and that's it. He can't run, he seems pretty lazy and I can't see that he has enough quality to cut it here.

It's especially interesting that he's not really been called up to the first team at all this season.

It wouldn't be a major loss at all. If we can get a suitable amount of money for him then I see no reason why we shouldn't let him go.

Didn't he only get a new contract a the end of last season was a bit suprised by that with his lack of first team action. If we recieve a decent bid for him something like £2.5 or £3 million I'd sell otherwise I'd just loan him out.

Not sure, he looked handy pre-season as well. Though there must be a reason he's still nowhere near the first team when quite a few of the young reserves have had chances this year!

He has never really kicked on and ever been in contention for a regular first team place. A shame really as he looked as though he had loads of potential a couple of years back.

Id take what we can get for him.

I dont think we should sell him, we need strength in depth especially in the reserves, he pushes the class of the reserves up a knotch as he is a good player.
Whats the point in selling him, then servicing the debt, we need a strong competitive reserve squad, so they can push the first teamers for a place.
We need to nurture the youngsters into full teamers.

I always liked Plessis but I suppose their comes a time when you have to let a player go, maybe Rafa thinks European football would be suited more to Plessis with his range of passing, he would also get more time on the ball.

Maybe in 5 years Plassis will be filled out and would be more siuted to our game them, but who can wait that long, so go and carve out a career for yourself lad, but please don't make us look silly by signing for Barca or Real in 4 to 5 years time.

A loan move for a year would be a good idea. Think after the showing he had against Arsenal maybe he expected his Liverpool career to kick on. It hasn't and at the moment he is stagnent. Loan for a year would be good for both parties

Showed a lot of promise but for his benefit, I think he'd be better leaving, on loan or otherwise. We've got a lot of cover in the middle and I can't see him getting much of a chance ahead of Masch, Lucas, Aquilani, Gerrard, Spearing....

Liverpool midfielder Damien Plessis could be set for a loan switch to Serie A strugglers Lazio, talkaloadofbull.com UK understands.

       Related Links
The 21-year-old midfielder has been on the fringes of the Reds' first team for the past three seasons, making eight appearances in that time, and manager Rafael Benitez revealed yesterday that an Italian club had made an enquiry about signing Plessis on loan.

talkaloadofbull.com UK understands that the Rome giants are heading the chase for the former Lyon-trainee, as they seek to arrest an alarming slide down the Serie A table.

Davide Ballardini's men currently lie 15th in Italy's top-flight, just two points above the relegation zone, and Italian football expert Susy Campanale says Plessis' physical presence would interest the Biancocelesti.

"Physical strength is prized in Serie A because it is so rare," said Campanale, who writes for the Football Italia magazine and website. "Inter have cornered the market in big, strong midfielders, so any of the top clubs would be intrigued by Plessis as a loan target. The Italian rumour mill suggests Lazio are the ones looking at him right now, and that sounds about right.

"Lazio are a club in serious trouble. It is not clear how much longer Ballardini can hang on, as they're sliding perilously close to the relegation zone."

Plessis was heralded as a potential star at Anfield after making an impressive debut against Arsenal in 2007, but the presence of the likes of Javier Mascherano, Xabi Alonso and Alberto Aquilani, plus the emergence of Lucas Leiva, has meant the Frenchman has found opportunities limited.

Benitez yesterday revealed that he would be prepared to sanction the release of Plessis on loan, telling reporters; "Plessis is a young player who isn't playing games. We were considering a loan but we're talking to the player and his agent.

"We had an Italian team asking about him and we'll see if we can find a solution that is best for him and for us."

Benitez is believed to be in the market for at least one more player before the transfer window closes next Monday, with Sunderland's £12 million-rated striker Kenwyne Jones his top target.

The Reds are also rumoured to have offered contracts to Bordeaux's Marouane Chamakh, and Milan Jovanovic of Standard Liege. Both are out of contract this summer

At least if he goes to Lazio, who are struggling, he will prob play regularly and therefore building up experience. It does do my head in that we are in the situation that we are considering loaning him which will probably result in us selling him. I think he should feature more on the subs bench for Premiership games but I suppose I am not Rafa  :-\
