He never, ever got any credit.

The media was on his back from day one, I'm surprised it didn't get to him.

not sure if that's strictly true. last year when we were riding high, there was far less sniping, but there was still some. mainly because the toffee nosed c**t has half the media in his pocket, so as soon as rafa gave fergie some sh*t, media begun circling like vultures.

and this year, when we've been completely f**ked over by the owners, the media descended on rafa like a pack of hyenas.

      rafa wasn't always so villified.

either way, his on-field record in 6 seasons and his off-field transfer dealings is the real evidence to me of what a world class manager he is. the fact that he had class and culture and loved lfc like a true fan, just about makes him a legend for me.

a legend? my arse..under him we played negative, boring football. that clown played a holding midfielder against portsmouth who were bottom of the league at the time....best thing we ever did was get rid of him...

According to your logic, we should be winning lots of games just by playing positive and attractive football all the time, really that simple huh. Perhaps you should manage the team then and what will you do when the results do not go the way as expected and the number of defeats are piling up, smartypant.

Because Arsenal have won everything playing attractive football?
Maybe we should get rid of you, for your negative & unattractive posts...

Yes, he did. Closer than anyone else since we last won, and with a points total greater than almost all of the totals we accumulated in our title winning seasons, and a total that would have won the league in most of the Premier League seasons. Unfortunately, manure got a few clutch points that we didn't.

Now lets stop with the Rafa bashing. He's gone, there's no need. Whether you like him or not, facts of his achievements can not be denied and now he's gone it would be nice if we could just remember the good times and not continue the pointless debate. Because now he's gone, it is pointless.

Am I missing something, did we not finish 2nd in the league in 01/02, under Houllier/Thompson?
And regarding 'legends' - Souness WON five League Championships, three European Cups and four League Cups with Liverpool and made over 350 appearances. True he had a crap stint as manager but I'm sure he didn't set out to be rubbish. I remember that time, Julian Dicks et al, was terrible, but that didn't negate all that he had done before.
Getting F***ing sick of hearing great Liverpool player's names dragged through the mud on here just for publicly critising a manager. Throw in Ronnie Whelan and others, all for holding a different point of view. After the service they've given, and the numerous league titles and other trophies they've earned in the Red jersey (these guys BUILT the trophy totals we all throw around), think they deserve not to be called some of the things they have been. Would be much easier for these guys to curry favour with fans by siding with Rafa if they so wished.
      People have very short memories.

Err yes, with 6 less points. And then he was given a 'war chest' to spend and completely screwed it up. I'm not denying Houllier's successes at times, but overall i feel Rafa was a better manager given how he built us back up and then had to work under constraints, i feel he did a better job.

Anyways thats beside the point - point is, last season was indeed our best league finish for a long time.

So if someone had been with their wife/husband for 20 years, bought them countless gifts and blessed them with children - would that make it okay if they then beat the sh*t out of them and left them?

Thats what Souness did. He was a sh*te manager, and was too stubborn to realize that. He's still bitter about how  it ended, and it comes out every time he talks. And no, i don't 'drag a players name through the mud' lightly. But Souness has repeatedly talked sh*t without basis, and regardless of what he did on the pitch, he pisses me off now and i have no qualms with saying hes a F***ing idiot for some of the crap he comes out with. Not to mention his tenure of Liverpool dragged the Liverpool FC brand through the mud, he should have known he didn't have the balls to cope with being a manager.

Success doesn't earn respect, success and your conduct with that success earns respect.

Some people have very selective memories.

The way I see it is, were still paying for Souness's failure now, he fu**ed up the club on the footballing side at the pinnacle of its success, had he not failed in his managerial role at that given time and drove us onto more success chances are we would not be in the predicament we are in today.

So for Souness to condemn Rafa in any way shape or form as a manager is like the kettle calling the frying pan grimey arse in my opinion.

Then when you take into consideration his time at Southampton and the signing Senegalese player Ali Dia, supposedly on the recommendation of former FIFA World Player of the Year and former Liberian striker George Weah which later turned out to be a hoax through Souness not doing his checks properly, surely his managerial credentials are not the best to form basis of opinions on others.

So as I said previously as an ex player Legend & rightly so.

As an ex- manager sh*t house and a mouth a piece.
