      Strangest transfer rumours?
      Jun 23, 2011 02:59:23 pm
I saw this somewhere else but thought the idea was good.

Just wondering what the strangest transfer rumour you ever heard was. Like someone that was rumoured to being moving to a club but the transfer never materialised.

Mine would be Gary Breen to Inter after the 2002 World Cup.

Will have to have a think about an old one, but a current one for me is this John O'Shea one. One nonsense article and it's continually at the top half of the page!

How about the Gareth Barry saga surely that must rank with the strangest. I think it competed with the fugitive for the longest running thread. :f_tongueincheek:

David Trezeguet, was strongly linked to Liverpool every year for about 5 seasons and it never happened.

The winner for me is still Mirrorsport when they reported we were interested in buying someone named Baptiste, turned out it was a character from Sky's "Dream Team" programme!

Never heard that one. That's ridiculous though, how sh*t a jurno have you got to be to do that.

My favorite on is the Jay Bothroyd to us one that's been about. It's so sh*t I don't even think there is a topic in the transfer board.

The most shocked I've been at a transfer was the second coming of Fowler God.

I switched on Sky Sports News and read the yellow ticker tape and my jaw hit the floor.

Never shocked me that mate, I had it on good authority it was happening, cleaned up in the bookies in Fleetwood when I was working there.

I remember laughing when someone told me we were going to sign Craig Bellamy and then about three weeks later we did.

Rushie coming home beats that for me, was gutted when he left, my original hero.

I  loved rushie too, your the same age as me HR so I know where your coming from, but id have to say I was more in touch with the club by the time fowler left, when rushie left I was 10.. I remember thinking great whos ever gonna replace him (and still pretending to be him kicking the ball round) but by the time robbie left id have been 23 and more in tune with everything, reading all the press etc.. I was in thailand and got a text from my old man saying he had left and I was gutted..

Same mate, once I had picked my jaw off the floor, I rang my Mum who was out with my Dad for their anniversary and made her guess for about 5 minutes who we had signed by giving her clues. She didn't get anywhere close.

When I told her who it was she thought I was taking the piss, so I had to send her a picture message of the SSN breaking news bar.

I then ran around the house celebrating ;D

I'll be honest, what made it made better, was when Rushie returned that was my first season my dad and me had adult and child season tickets.

When Robbie returned, it just wasn't the same, you could tell he wasn't as good as first time round.

yeah rushie still came back in his prime.. he wasnt away long, a long term injury could have kept him away longer.. your right with robbies return, about him not being the same player but the sentiment of it was brilliant.. that night he made his second debut was fantastic
